OBITUARY: Dr. Eugene (Gene) M. L. Taylor, 82

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Dr. Eugene (Gene) M. L. Taylor, affectionately known as “Bucky” to his family and friends, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, following a brief illness. He was 82 years old.

Born in Boston, Bucky was the beloved son of the late Drs. Francis H. L. Taylor and Z. Eileen (Sharp) Taylor. He was raised in Winchester, where he graduated from Winchester High School.

Bucky earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Miami before continuing his studies at Boston College, where he received both his master’s degree and Ph.D. in counseling psychology. He went on to devote his professional life to helping others as a respected member of the counseling department at Boston College for over forty years. Admired by students and colleagues alike, Bucky was known for his kindness, compassion, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to supporting every student who sought his guidance.

Bucky married the love of his life, Patricia A. (Cuneo) Taylor. Together they built a life filled with unwavering love, laughter, and devotion, and were just days away from celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary.

In 1970, Bucky and Tricia made Wilmington their home, where they were warmly welcomed into their neighborhood. They quickly formed lifelong friendships, treating neighbors as extended family and always lending a helping hand. Bucky took great pride in his home and yard and was happiest when he was busy, whether tending to his property or helping a friend or neighbor with a project.

Above all else, Bucky’s greatest joy was his family. He was the devoted father of three daughters, who were truly the light of his life. He was their greatest source of encouragement, a trusted confidant, and a loving mentor who supported them unconditionally throughout their lives.

His role as “Papa” brought him immeasurable happiness. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren at the family’s beloved ocean home in Harpswell, Maine. There, he shared his lifelong love of the water by teaching them to sail, swim, water ski, and fish. An accomplished sailor, Bucky loved spending time aboard his sailboat Esprit exploring the waters of Casco Bay. The ocean was both an exciting adventure and a place of peace and renewal for him. Remarkably active throughout his life, he was sailing last month and waterskiing as recently as last summer.

Bucky will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and generous man whose warmth, integrity, and genuine concern for others touched everyone who knew him. Whether as a husband, father, Papa, counselor, mentor, neighbor, or friend, he enriched the lives of so many through his compassion, wisdom, and unconditional love.

Bucky is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia A. (Cuneo) Taylor; his devoted daughters, Eileen (Taylor) Osborne and her husband, Joseph, of Andover, Elizabeth (Taylor) Rossi and her husband, David, of Norton, and Dawna (Taylor) Neylon and her husband, Joseph, of Andover. He was the cherished Papa of Andrew Osborne, Hannah Dennis and her husband, George, Lauren Rossi, Clint Rossi and his wife, Grace, Peter Neylon, and Emily Neylon, and the proud great-grandfather of Graham Dennis.

He was the dear brother of the late Patricia “Patsy” MacVane and her late husband, David. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Family and friends are invited to gather at a Funeral Mass for Eugene on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Avenue, Wilmington.
