NORTHFIELD, VT — On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Wilmington’s Marcello Misuraca graduated Summa Cum Laude and Commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Misuraca was a 2022 Wilmington High School graduate and was the captain of the WHS football and wrestling teams. Misuraca was a three-year Army ROTC scholarship awardee. He has an eight-year commitment to the U.S. Army in which four of these years must be served as active duty.
As part of the commissioning, Misuraca participates in an oath of office, pinning his rank by his parents and the traditional first salute. Marcello’s first salute was his grandfather Robert Spencer — retired Chief of Wilmington Police and Vietnam veteran.
Once they perform the salute, Marcello presents his grandfather with a ceremonial silver dollar as a token of respect which dates to the early 1800’s.
Misuraca also played outside linebacker for the Cadets for four years and was one of their leading tacklers, CSC academic all-district, and two-time NEWMAC academic all-conference and during graduation weekend he was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame Vermont Chapter.
“We wish him the best of luck with his service commitment and thank you for serving.”
Norwich University is the founding University of ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corp) and the oldest private Military College in the United States.
