Below is a letter shared by the Town Manager’s Office, to update residents on the status of the Route 38 reconstruction project, from the Woburn City Line to the intersection of Route 62 and Route 38.
Dear Manager Slagle,
I am pleased to inform you that the MassDOT construction bid documents for the Wilmington Reconstruction on Route 38 (Main Street) from Route 62 to the Woburn City Line project in your community have been completed. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation – Highway Division has awarded the contract to Northern Construction Service LLC.
The work under this Contract consists of improvements to Route 38 (Main Street) in the Town of Wilmington. The project begins at the intersection of Routes 38 and Route 62 and ends at the City Line with Woburn, a distance of approximately 10,850 feet (excluding Project No. 607327). The project includes geometric improvements; full depth pavement reconstruction; widening to provide bike lanes in each direction; a new traffic signal at Cross Street and Butters Row intersection; signal upgrades to the intersections at Church Street and Route 129 (Lowell Street); matching into approaches for the replacement bridge over the MBTA railroad that is to be performed under a separate contract; excavation; pavement fine milling and box widening; pavement resurfacing; installing new drainage structures and pipe; installing a new water main, wetland area replication; installing new granite curb; removing and resetting existing granite curb; constructing ADA compliant cement concrete sidewalks and pedestrian curb ramps; constructing retaining walls; work adjacent to the MBTA Wilmington Station to provide MBTA services and fencing; construction of Bridge W-38-011 (CVE) which includes the installation of precast three-sided frame units resting on a cast-in-place pile cap supported by micropiles, as well as the construction of cast-in-place wingwalls; installing erosion control devices; installing guardrail; furnishing and spreading loam and seed; planting landscape areas: installing signs and pavement markings; furnishing and setting bounds; providing traffic control; and other incidental items of work listed in the proposal.
The project has a completion date of September 13, 2031. Following the Notice to Proceed, a pre-construction meeting will be scheduled. Your community will be invited, so please look for the invite.
The bid package, including the construction plans and specifications, are available for review at your request. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to reacquaint yourself with the project and ask that you share this invitation with the community’s emergency services divisions and any other local officials or departments who may have an interest in the matter
