OBITUARY: Arthur George “Ozzie” Houhoulis, 96

Below is an obituary from McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Service:

WOBURN, MA — Arthur George “Ozzie” Houhoulis, 96, of Wakefield, MA, formerly of Woburn, MA, passed away on May 19, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born on December 18, 1925, in Boston, he worked many years in electronics manufacturing. Once retired, Arthur enjoyed twenty-six winters of sunshine in Sarasota, Florida with his devoted wife of 64 years, Mary.

Arthur was a member of the Grand Lodge of Masons for over 60 years. He was also an active member of the Aleppo Shrine in Wilmington, MA, volunteering to drive children to the burn hospital in Boston for many years. Arthur was also a very active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Woburn, MA where he and Mary raised their family, serving for many years on the church council. He loved to volunteer at the Greek festivals, and particularly loved “testing” all the Greek food to ensure it was acceptable to serve. He and Mary eventually retired to West Harwich on Cape Cod and were very active in the Greek church there.

While he made many wonderful friends throughout his life, Arthur was devoted to his family. He relished spending time with them and supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

A devoted husband, Arthur is survived by his wife Mary (Piandes) Houhoulis of Wakefield. Loving father of two daughters, Kathy Hempel of Marblehead and Debbie Stangas and husband Brian Hanafin of Woburn. Adoring grandfather to four grandchildren, Nick Stangas and wife Bethany, Alexis Stangas and fiancé Cameron Garnett, Christina Stangas, and Jacob Arthur Hempel, and one great-grandchild, Harper Stangas. He also is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Arthur will always be remembered as a kind, gentle, and good man with a humorous side. For him, family always came first. His life lessons and example are part of his legacy that continue through his family. He will be dearly missed.

Funeral services were held from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 25th in the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave, Woburn. Services concluded with burial at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Arthur’s memory to the Shriners Burn Institute, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
