WILMINGTON, MA — The March 4 filing deadline has come and gone. Wilmington will see a relatively quiet election season, with three of the four races uncontested.
Selectmen Race
Two seats will be decided. Incumbents Greg Bendel and Kevin Caira, along with new resident Paul Sarnowski, returned nomination papers to run for the Board of Selectmen. Barring any write-in candidates, this is the only contested race of the election season.
School Committee Race
Three seats will be decided. Incumbents Jay Samaha and Jesse Fennelly, along with political newcomer Steven Turner, returned nomination papers to run for the School Committee. Incumbent Jo Newhouse recently announced she would not be seeking re-election.
Shawsheen Tech School Committee Race
One seat will be decided. Political newcomer Gwendilyn Hupper-Lawson returned nomination papers to run for the Shawsheen Tech School Committee. Incumbent Robert Peterson Sr. recently announced he would not be seeking re-election after serving for 28 years.
Housing Authority Race
One seat will be decided. Incumbent Stacie Murphy returned nomination papers to run for Housing Authority.
The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Polls will be open from 8am to 8pm.
The last day to register to vote for the Annual Town Election is Monday, April 4, 2022.
