OBITUARY: Leslie George “Bud” Hollenbeck, 99

BURLINGTON, MA — Leslie George “Bud” Hollenbeck of Burlington, formerly of Bedford and Hampstead, NC passed away at the age of 99 on September 16, 2021. He is survived by his son Craig Hollenbeck (wife Michele); son Jon Hollenbeck; daughter Jan Hollenbeck (husband Scott Brewitt); grandson Peter Hollenbeck (wife Sunnie); grandson Alex Hollenbeck (wife Silvey) and great grandchildren Tor and Britton Hollenbeck. Predeceased by his beloved wife Lorayne and sisters Dorothy Anstey, Myrtle Dodd, and Spray Richardson.

Bud was born in Cooperstown, NY and spent his childhood growing up in Hyde Park, MA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 and served in World War II as a Signalman aboard the Battleship USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) in the Pacific from 1940-46 (8 Battle Stars). He is a Pearl Harbor Survivor; the Pennsylvania was in dry dock during the attack and fortunately suffered only minor damage. After he left the Navy, he took advantage of the GI Bill and earned his BS in Civil Engineering at Northeastern University. He spent most of his working career as an Aerospace Engineer at Textron (formerly AVCO) in Wilmington, MA.

Bud was an active member of the Bedford Community in the 1960s, 70s and 80s while raising his children: he served as Deacon at the First Church of Christ, Congregational; as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 116; and managed the purchase and distribution of all Little League Baseball Equipment. He was an avid tennis player until the age of 92.

A memorial service will be held in Shawsheen Funeral Home on Friday, September 24th at 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bud’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
