WILMINGTON, MA — William H., Woods, Jr., “Salvi”, age 51, of Lowell, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on November 15, 2018, following a courageous battle with Scleroderma.
Salvi was born on March 1, 1967, in Woburn, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Billy and Sheila Woods. Salvi grew up in Wilmington, attended Wilmington Public Schools, and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1985. Always a competitor; Salvi, was an outstanding athlete for the Wilmington youth sports teams as well as the Wilmington Wildcat High School football and hockey teams.
Following High School, Salvi, went on to continue his education at Merrimack College in North Andover and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While at Merrimack, he played on the football team all four years and as Captain of the team in his final year there.
Salvi worked hard for his family; at the time of his death he was employed as a Senior Buyer for the Unifirst Corporation in Wilmington. Salvi enjoyed working at Unifirst; and the bond he had with his coworkers was unlike any other. They were more like family than friends. Salvi’s endearing personality, great work ethic, and excellent people skills made him one of the favorites amongst his customers & vendors as well. To say he will me missed there is grossly understated.
Billy married his favorite Irish girl, Eileen McMahon on October 11, 1998 and followed by bringing two wonderful son’s Casey and Patrick into the world. Salvi loved his family with all his heart and was always very proud of “his boys”. Some of his favorite memories took place at the family cottage (the “Minnie HaHa”) on Plum Island with his family & friends and was so happy that his boys got to spend time there each summer as he did as a child. The Woods cousins were more like brothers & sisters and can be attributed to the summers spent on Plum Island and the many gatherings at 185 Wildwood Street.
In his spare time, Salvi, loved playing or following all sports; whether he was golfing with his cousins, playing on several soft-ball teams with his buddies, or taking in a Patriots, Red Sox, or Bruins game he always had a great time and was the ultimate Boston sports fan.
Salvi will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his infectious smile, and his gift for writing poetry. If you were lucky enough to received one of his “special” poem’s you knew he was your friend, that he cared about you and he wanted to make you smile. He loved his family and friends unconditionally; and was the epitome of loyal to the end. Salvi was truly a “great guy” who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him.
Billy was the beloved husband of Eileen M. (McMahon) Woods, devoted father of Casey and Patrick Woods all of Lowell. Cherished son of the late William H. Sr. “Billy” and Sheila (McKinney) Woods, dear brother of Mary-Alice Cavens & her late husband Joseph of Rowley, Eileen M. Woods and Daniel E. Woods both of Wilmington. Loving Uncle of Megan & Nick Manent and Erin & Max Thomas as well as many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Son-in-law of Claire and the late Jimmy McMahon, brother-in-law Kathleen & David Sullivan, James & Linda McMahon, Brian & Debbie McMahon, Kevin, Maureen and Michael McMahon. Salvi is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Tuesday, November 20th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
