TOWN ELECTION UPDATE: Ragsdale Pulls Nomination Papers To Run For School Committee

WILMINGTON, MA — Town Election season is beginning to heat up.

On Tuesday morning, David Ragsdale pulled nomination papers to run for Wilmington School Committee. Ragsdale works for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, specializing in Student Assessment.  A familiar face at school committee meetings as he’s often the only parent in the audience, Ragsdale recently served as a Parent Representative on the Superintendent Search Screening Committee.

Ragsdale is the THIRD resident to pull nomination papers to run for the TWO seats up on the Wilmington School Committee.  Incumbent MJ Byrnes is seeking re-election to her third term. The other incumbent, Manny Mulas, has announced he will not seek re-election. Ragsdale joins resident Jesse Fennelly as challengers.  Fennelly pulled nomination papers last year, but did not return them.

TWO residents have pulled nomination papers to run for the ONE seat up on the Wilmington Board of Selectmen. Finance Committee member Jonathan Eaton will seek to replace Selectman Mike Champoux, who announced he will not be seeking re-election.  Champoux has endorsed Eaton.  Joseph Infantino also pulled papers for the seat, but subsequently told the Lowell Sunhe likely would not return them as he was having difficulty collecting signatures.

ONE resident has pulled nomination papers to run for Wilmington Town Moderator. Incumbent Robert G. Peterson, Jr. is looking to serve a second term.

ONE resident has pulled nomination papers to run for the ONE seat up on the Shawsheen Tech School Committee. Longtime incumbent Jim Gillis is looking to return to the Committee.

ONE resident has pulled nomination papers to run for the ONE seat up on the Wilmington Housing Authority. Longtime incumbent Robert C. DiPasquale is hoping to continue his service on the Housing Authority.

Below is the latest on how things currently stand:

Wilmington Board of Selectmen — 1 seat — 3-year term

  • Jonathan Eaton (challenger) — pulled papers on 1/2 — papers not yet returned & certified
  • Joseph Infantino (challenger) — pulled papers on 1/18 — papers not yet returned & certified

NOTE: Incumbent Mike Champoux has announced he will NOT be seeking re-election.

Wilmington School Committee — 2 seats — 3-year term

  • Mary Jayne (MJ) Byrnes (incumbent) — pulled papers on 1/3 — papers not yet returned & certified
  • Jesse Fennelly (challenger) — pulled papers on 2/5 — papers not yet returned & certified
  • David Ragsdale (challenger) — pulled papers on 2/13 — papers not yet returned & certified

NOTE: Incumbent Manny Mulas has announced he will NOT be seeking re-election.

Wilmington Town Moderator — 1 seat — 3-year term

  • Robert G. Peterson, Jr. (incumbent) — pulled papers on 1/11 — papers not yet returned & certified

Shawsheen Tech School Committee — 1 seat — 3-year term

  • James Gillis (incumbent) — pulled papers on 1/9 — papers not yet returned & certified

Wilmington Housing Authority Seat — 1 seat — 5-year term

  • Robert C. DiPasquale (incumbent) — pulled papers on 1/9 — papers not yet returned & certified

Nomination papers have been available in the Town Clerk’s Office since January 2.  Papers, with at least 50 valid signatures from Wilmington voters, are due back to the Town Clerk by Friday, March 9.

The Wilmington Town Clerk’s Office, located at Town Hall, is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 28.  Polls will be open from 8am to 8pm.
