WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington’s Caryn Goulet has been named TOPSoccer Coach of the Year by the United States Youth Soccer Association.

Goulet will receive the award at the 2018 US Youth Soccer Awards Gala, held in Philadelphia, on January 20, as part of the US Youth Soccer Workshop at the United Soccer Coaches Convention.

Goulet is being recognized for her extraordinary accomplishments as a TOPSoccer Coach, including:

  • demonstrating patience, understanding, dependability, flexibility and ability to adjust to ever-changing on-field situations.
  • being an invaluable volunteer who facilitates the program by filling many roles, including being a coach, cheerleader and role model as well as assisting when needed with administrative responsibilities.
  • showing leadership and support while assisting, guiding, directing and teaching the game of soccer and its skills while creating a fun learning experience.

TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is “a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers.”

Goulet currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the Wilmington-based BeyondTOPS (2012-present). She’s been the Outreach Coordinator for TOPSoccer since 2006. Goulet also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (2013-current) and Middlesex Youth Soccer League’s Board of Directors (2012-present).  She previously served on the Board of Directors of Wilmington Youth Soccer (2006-2012). She is a longtime USSF certified coach (recreational, travel, and state District Select program) and USSF certified referee.

Goulet just earned the Wildcat Distinguished Service Award at June’s Wilmington High Senior Athletic Banquet for her support of WHS athletics and her planning of the annual Kick Cancer events, put on by the WHS Girls Soccer program, which raise funds for the Hope and Friendship Metastatic Breast Cancer Foundation.

One of her BeyondTOPS fellow volunteers, Ed Celli, received the US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year award in 2011.
