The Wilmington Insider For November 6, 2017

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a round-up of what’s going on in Wilmington on Monday, November 6, 2017:

In The News:

21st Century Education: The Town Crier‘s Lizzie McDermott reported on Assistant Superintendent Sean Gallagher’s recent presentation to the School Committee on the district’s successful 1:1 Chromebook initiative. “According the Gallagher, the program’s keys to success are effective tech support, inspired staff, ongoing professional development, supportive families, and the loaner program. He also credited the sustainable mo­del used by Wilmington, which has allowed it to flourish rather than run into the roadblocks faced by other communities.”

Happening Today:

Weather: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Areas of fog before 11am. High near 69. South wind 5 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Traffic Advisory: Butters Row Bridge will be closed through November 10. The MassDOT are repairing damaged bridge timber deck planks and timber stringers. Work will take place daily from 7am to 7pm. Detour routes are posted HERE. … A Sewer Project on Lowell Street is underway from 7am to 4pm. Short traffic delays are expected particularly as the project advances through the Woburn and Lowell Street intersection.

Fall Yardwaste: The Town will collect leaves and grass clippings placed in biodegradable paper bags or uncovered barrels at curbside on regular trash collection days over the next five weeks. Also, the Yard Waste Center will be open special hours today from 8am to 2pm.

In The Community: The Wilmington Democratic Town Committee is hosting Massachusetts Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Jay Gonzalez at its monthly meeting at 7pm at WCTV Headquarters (10 Waltham Street).

In The Community: The Wilmington High School Class of 2019 officers have organized a fundraiser at the Chipotle in Woburn (112 Commerce Way) from 5pm to 9pm. 50% of each sale will be donated to the class. Just bring this flyer or show it on your phone.

At Town Hall: The Wilmington Board of Selectmen meets at 7pm in Room 9 of Town Hall. The Selectmen will be setting a date for the Special Town Meeting. Read the agenda HERE.
