WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a round-up of what’s going on in Wilmington on Monday, October 30, 2017:
In The News:
Latest On The Detox Proposal Drama: Selectman Chair Mike Champoux is not a fan of Selectman Mike McCoy’s efforts to call a Special Town Meeting in order to amend the town’s zoning bylaws to prevent detox centers to open anywhere in town but general industrial zoned areas. According to an article in yesterday’s Lowell Sun, “Champoux thinks the article being pushed for a Special Town Meeting is discriminatory, while he does not believe that was the intention. ‘I have the feeling, personally, that the nature of that article that (McCoy is) proposing is contrary to the kind of society that we live in and I wouldn’t support it,’ he said.”
The article focused primary on the Concerned Citizens Coalition, which recently formed to oppose the North Wilmington location for the proposed detox center. Wilmington Apple outlined the group’s mission in a letter to the editor HERE.
