WILMINGTON, MA — Below are a couple of recent Wilmington Little League game summaries:
AA: Royals vs. Astros — Thursday, May 18, 2017
The AA Royals and Astros played their second game this week, this time at Glen Road. For the Royals, some familiar players had strong games against the Astros. Luke Kitanov and Dante McCollem played very well as they usually do against this opponent. McCollem was terrific on the mound and Charlotte Forcina made some great pitches as well, keeping the Astros off balance. Despite this, the Astros had their bats going as Joey Fennelly, Erin McCarthy, Mikey Taylor, and Connor Sullivan lead the way with two hits apiece while James Passerini and Justin Fricia added one each. Sullivan, McCarthy, and Kevin Pruslin each struck out two or more on the mound while Quinn Stockman made a nice defensive play during his inning. Evan Cummings, Fennelly, McCarthy, and Sullivan also made nice plays in the field. The team continues to benefit from many willing catchers as John Roofe, Fennelly, Fricia, and Passerini had played well manning the position this game.
AA: Braves vs. Astros — Saturday, May 20, 2017
The Braves and Astros met at iconic Rotary Park for a Double-A game on Saturday, May 20. This was one of the Astros’ better fielding games as everyone was involved one way or another. Kyle Bridge played excellent center field retrieving a couple of long hits and getting the ball quickly back to the infield. Mikey Taylor caught a liner at second base and doubled off the runner at first. Joey Fennelly played his usual great defense behind the plate while Erin McCarthy & Connor Sullivan were rock solid as always all over the field. James Passerini, John Roofe, Justin Fricia, and Evan Cummings also contributed to the effort. Passerini, Roofe, Fennelly, & Fricia all struck out batters during their time on the mound. Cummings, Fennelly, Fricia, Roofe, McCarthy, Passerini, and Sullivan all singled and Taylor lead the way with a single and double. The Braves opened the game with singles by Warren Sullivan and Chase Kennedy while Nolan Richards pitched two great innings. Shane McDonald doubled in the second while Matthew Driscoll’s double and Jake Antczak’s single drove in runs in the third. Driscoll then struck out two on the mound. Richards, McDonald, Kennedy, & Jack McClennan kept the offensive pressure on throughout with more hits. McDonald pitched a strong inning while Thomas Pote, Reilly Young, and Driscoll made great plays in the field. Colin Dwyer kept the ball in play behind the plate at catcher.
