OBITUARY: James Killilea, 70

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — James “Jimmy” Killilea, age 70, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 13, 1956, Jimmy was the beloved son of the late Thomas and Florence (Ellis) Killilea. He was raised and educated in Somerville, where he graduated from Somerville High School and formed many lifelong friendships.

It was in those early years that Jimmy met his sweetheart, Rhonda Cronin, and the two began a beautiful life together. They married on September 11, 1977, and recently celebrated 49 years of marriage. They initially made their home in Stoneham before moving to Medford to be closer to family. Together, they welcomed two wonderful children, Michael and Shannon, and eventually settled in Wilmington, where they have made their home for more than 24 years.

Jimmy was a hardworking, driven, and successful entrepreneur who owned and operated several businesses throughout the years, most recently J & R Trucking. A smart businessman with an exceptional knowledge of his industry, Jimmy was known for his ability to connect with clients, his professionalism, and his dedication to his work. Above all, he was a good guy with a generous heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

When he wasn’t working, Jimmy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved golfing, relaxing on the beach, and taking road trips with his family to some of their favorite destinations, including Vermont, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Old Orchard Beach in Maine. He especially enjoyed spending time with his faithful four-legged companion, Heidi. One of his greatest joys was looking forward to trips to Hawaii to visit his son and family.

Nothing meant more to Jimmy than his family. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured every moment spent together, whether here in Massachusetts or during visits to Hawaii. His love for them was immeasurable, and the memories they created together will be cherished forever.

Jimmy will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 49 years, Rhonda Killilea (Cronin); his devoted children, Michael Killilea and his wife, Jessica, of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Shannon Patalano and her husband, Andrew, of Wilmington; his cherished grandchildren, Tyla, Owen, Aaron, Michael, Alex, and Olivia; and his adored great-grandchildren, Amiyah and Jeremias.

He was the dear brother of Robert Killilea, Elaine “Pat” Hannigan, Thomas Killilea, and the late Margaret Bradley. Jimmy also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Jimmy’s life was built around hard work, loyalty, laughter, and, most importantly, family. He will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, strong work ethic, and the countless ways he touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Though he will be missed beyond words, the love he shared and the memories he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Route 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, November 14th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
