Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — George L. Kenson, age 85, a longtime Wilmington resident and formerly of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026.
Born on September 13, 1941, in Melrose, MA, George was the cherished son of the late Ruth (Peterson) Kenson and Earl Kenson. He was raised and educated in Stoneham and graduated from Stoneham High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance.
George began his career in the finance department at Sweetheart Plastics Company in Wilmington, where he excelled in accounting and financial management. Known as a knowledgeable and trustworthy employee, he was also kind and friendly to his coworkers. After 25 years of dedicated service, the Wilmington plant closed, and George went on to become the Financial Controller for Rich Foods company before retiring.
George’s family was the center of his world. He was a devoted, loving, and patient father to his daughters, Kim and Pam, whom he adored. As a hands-on grandfather, George cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and took great pride in the family he raised.
George also shared a special bond with his mother, Ruth. They were, always there for one another, and there was nothing George wouldn’t do to help her.
Outside of work, George enjoyed a variety of interests and adventures. He loved music of all kinds and attended numerous concerts over the years, including performances by the Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, and Cher. He enjoyed traveling, discovering new places, and meeting new people, but his favorite destination was Disney World, where he shared countless magical memories with his beloved wife, Judy who was the love of his life for several decades. Judy was the perfect companion for George, always up for an adventure and the perfect planner for all the family events.
George also earned his pilot’s license and spent more than 35 years flying private planes and seaplanes. He treasured the opportunity to see the world from above and experience the many spectacular sights that flying had to offer.
After retirement, George dedicated his time and talents at the Hobo Railroad in Lincoln, NH, where he developed a special bond with the Clark family, the owners. His dedication and commitment were a reflection of the generosity and loyalty that defined him throughout his life.
George will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, corny jokes, and witty sarcasm, always delivered in good fun. He was a devoted family man, a welcoming friend and neighbor, and, above all, a genuinely good person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, laughter, and loving presence will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
George was the beloved husband of the late Judy Kenson (Zaruba); the devoted father of Kim Kenson of Redondo Beach, CA, Pamela DiPesa of North Andover, MA and Michael Adams of Devens, MA; and the loving “Grampa” of Heather MacKinnon, Ryan MacKinnon, Taylor Ribiero, and Ava Kenson. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Celeste.
He was the dear brother of Robert Kenson and his wife, Sharon, of Westchester, PA, and a special uncle to his nephews, Brian Kenson and his wife, Jennifer, and Bruce Kenson and his wife, Aimee. He is also survived by many dear friends who will cherish his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 93 Worcester St., Wellesley, MA 02481.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Avenue (Route 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, October 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m. Interment will take place at Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham, MA.
