OBITUARY: Ruth Castaldo, 107

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Castaldo, on July 6, 2026, just nine days before her 108th birthday, at the Douglas T. Jacobson Veterans Home in Port Charlotte, Florida. Ruth was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by grace, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to her family and her country.

Her legacy of love lives on through her surviving family: her children, George, Mary, and Therese; her 13 grandchildren; and her many beloved great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pasquale, and her children, Dorothy, Paul, and Joseph, with whom she is now reunited in peace.

Born in Everett, Massachusetts, on July 15, 1918, to George and Nellie Fields, Ruth was one of ten children. A proud veteran, she served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps from 1941 to 1944, traveling throughout the world during her service. It was after that she met her husband, Pasquale, whom she affectionately called Pat.

Ruth was the true matriarch and heartbeat of her family. She and her husband spent much of their life in Massachusetts, raising her children in Wilmington. Later they moved to Wells, Maine, where she continued to enjoy the things she loved most: church, casinos, the race track, lottery tickets, ballroom dancing, and, above all, time spent with family. In her later years, Ruth made her home in Florida, where she was surrounded by family, friends, and fellow veterans.

A celebration of Ruth’s beautiful life will be held on Saturday, September 12th at 11 a.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, Massachusetts. A gathering with food and drinks will follow the service.
