DOVER, NH — Eleanor Muriel Langley Reed, of Dover, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Dover, New Hampshire, at the age of 92.
Born in Chicopee, Massachusetts, on October 4, 1933, Eleanor graduated from Dover High School with the Class of 1951. Working as an assistant to the U.S. Naval Comptroller, she was romanced by Marine Sargent William Reed and married on June 6, 1956 at St. John’s Methodist Church in Dover New Hampshire. The couple had three sons while living in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for 16 years, then Wilmington, Massachusetts for 27 years, before making their home in New Durham, New Hampshire for 18 years and then Venice Florida for 8 years before returning to New Hampshire.
Eleanor enjoyed a distinguished career as the Executive Secretary to the Bishop of New England for the United Methodist Church. Her faith, dedication, and professionalism earned the respect and admiration of all who knew her.
Eleanor was the beloved wife of William P. Reed and the devoted mother of Paul A. Reed, James B. Reed, and Thomas H. Reed. Daughter-in-Laws Brenda Reed and Lisa Reed. She was a cherished grandmother to Pamela Reed, Alexandra Reed, Megan Reed Schwawkaus, Scott Reed, and Emily Reed True, and a proud great-grandmother to Chase Schwawkaus, Callie Schwawkaus, Freya Reed, Eva Reed, Noah True and Leo True.
She was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin B. Langley and Helen Muriel Moreau Langley.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Purdy Funeral Home, 655 Central Avenue, Dover, New Hampshire. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Newmarket, New Hampshire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Eleanor will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love of family, and the kindness she extended to everyone whose lives she touched. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
