Wilmington Public Schools Announces New Director Of Administration & Finance

WILMINGTON, MA — At last week’s Wilmington School Committee, departing Interim Superintendent David Thomson announced the appointment of Christine Bourne as the district’s next Director of Administration and Finance.

“Ms. Bourne brings more than 30 years of experience in school finance, municipal government, budget development, payroll administration, human resources, labor relations, and operational leadership. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, collaboration, and service to students, staff, and communities,” explained Dr. Thomson in a memo to the Committee. “Currently serving as the Business Manager for East Haddam (Connecticut) Public Schools, Ms. Bourne oversees all financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, human resources, cafeteria services, procurement, state construction projects, annual audits, investments, and state reporting.”

Bourne previously held leadership positions with New Haven Public Schools and Middletown Public Schools. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Charter Oak State College and completed Georgetown University’s Certificate in Education Finance, Finance Strategy, and Policy Leadership through the McCourt School of Public Policy.

“Her extensive experience in educational finance, strong leadership skills, and collaborative
approach make her an outstanding addition to Wilmington Public Schools,” continued Dr. Thomson. “We are excited to welcome Ms. Bourne to our district and look forward to the expertise and dedication she will bring to the District.

Bourne will begin her time with Wilmington Public Schools on July 27, 2026.

Bourne takes over for Keree Simmons, who served in the position for the past school year. Simmons is leaving Wilmington for the same position in Cohasset, which is much closer to his home. Simmons had replaced longtime Assistant Superintendent of Administration and Finance Paul Ruggiero, who retired in November after 17 years of service to the district.

Interim School Superintendent David Thomson, meanwhile, is also departing Wilmington Public Schools on June 30, 2026. He was recently appointed to the same position in Middleborough for the 2026-2027 school year. Wilmington’s new permanent School Superintendent — Matthew Poska — takes the reins on July 1, 2026. Poska was involved in the search process for Simmons’s replacement.
