WILMINGTON, MA — Richard E. Cann, fondly known as “Dick,” of Port Orange, Florida, and formerly of Billerica and Wilmington, MA, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 16, 1941, in Newton, Massachusetts, Dick was the beloved son of the late Harry and Elsie (Williams) Cann. He was raised and educated in Billerica and graduated from Billerica High School with the Class of 1959.
Following graduation, Dick proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he honorably served his country. After his military service, he built a successful career in the construction industry. Beginning as a roofer for several construction companies, Dick’s strong work ethic, leadership, and dedication helped him advance to become a respected General Contractor overseeing construction projects. He earned the admiration of colleagues and clients alike for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
Dick married his sweetheart, Jo Ann, and together they created a home filled with warmth, love, and laughter as they blended their families. He was a devoted husband, a loving father to all of the children in his care, and a proud and cherished “Poppie” to his grandchildren. Family was at the center of Dick’s life, and he found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved.
Known by many as “the nicest guy in the world,” Dick had a kind heart, a welcoming smile, and a genuine way of making everyone feel valued. His generosity, humility, and caring nature left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Dick was the beloved husband of the late Jo Ann (Smith) Cann. He was the devoted father of Ronald Cann and his companion, Sandra, of Billerica, and James “Ricky” Cann and his wife, Norma of Billerica, Richard “Dicky” Cann and his wife Cheryl of Florida, the late Michael Micalizzi and his wife Dawne Micalizzi, Mark Micalizzi and Michelle Hooper and her husband George all of Wilmington. Loving Poppie of Kaitlyn Cann, Carley McGregor and her husband John, Erin Cann, Sean Cann, Sheree Cann and her partner Kyle Grieve, James Noe Cann, Alisha Pelletier and her partner Jon Taylor, Marissa Cann and her partner Matthew Robinson, Ashley Micalizzi, Michael Micalizzi and his partner Amber McFadden, Julianne Hooper and her fiancé Shane Johnson, George Hooper and his wife Emma, and his great-grandchildren Dylan, the late Jacob, Jackson, Odin, and Sloane. Dear brother of Janice Geaumont of Maine, the late Allen Cann and Carol Calatoni, and the late Barry Cann. Dick is further survived by his nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, June 18th from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. followed by a Service at 11:30 a.m. which will conclude with Military Honors.
