Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — Ronald “Ron” Carter, 79, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, passed away unexpectedly on June 1st, 2026.
Born on August 28th, 1946, Ron was raised in Wilmington, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1964. Shortly after graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1969.
Ron was a talented cabinet maker and carpenter who owned and operated his own woodworking and cabinet-making business for many years. Known for his craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail, he built furniture, cabinetry, and custom woodworking projects that were made to last. He took great pride in his work and continued woodworking well into his seventies.
One of Ron’s greatest passions was genealogy. What began as an interest while he was still in high school became a lifelong pursuit. Over decades of dedicated research, he created a family tree containing more than 500,000 relatives, preserving generations of family history and helping countless people discover their roots and connections. He believed that every person had a story worth remembering and devoted much of his life to ensuring those stories would not be lost.
Ron was also a lifelong fan of music, movies, and life itself. Even during difficult times, he maintained an appreciation for laughter, good stories, and the simple pleasures that make life meaningful. He found joy in family gatherings, woodworking projects, genealogy research, and sharing memories with those he loved.
To those who knew him best, Ron will be remembered for his resilience, curiosity, sense of humor, and kind heart. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him.
Ron is survived by his brother, Thomas Carter and his wife, RuthAnn; his daughter, Christine Vincent and her husband, Ron, of Nashua, New Hampshire; his son, Stephen Carter and his wife, Meghan, of Deltona, Florida; and his daughter, Erin Bunker and her husband, Ken, of Hudson, New Hampshire.
He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Coreen, Alex, Caitlyn, Emelia, Shelby, Eddie and one grandchild on the way; along with his cherished great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Lily, Joshua, and Freya; he also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Carter and Winifred Carter, and by his siblings, Kenneth Carter, Roberta Carter, and Stephen Carter.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Avenue, Wilmington, Massachusetts. A funeral home service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with burial and military honors immediately thereafter at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
Ron’s family takes comfort in knowing that the stories he spent a lifetime preserving are now part of his own legacy. A proud veteran, skilled craftsman, devoted genealogist, music lover, and family man, he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
