EPA Provides Update On Activity At Olin Chemical Superfund Site

The EPA recently provided a community update on the Olin Chemical Superfund Site:

Community Update (Spring 2026)
Olin Chemical Superfund Site – Wilmington, Mass.

In March 2025, EPA and MassDEP approved Olin’s work plans to collect the additional data necessary to design the soil and groundwater cleanup systems. These work plans are for the soil contamination on the 51 Eames Street property and the pools of Dense Aqueous Phase Liquid (DAPL) and groundwater hot spots.

Olin collected soil samples through October 2025 and submitted a final report on the results this April, which EPA approved. The next step for soil remediation is the preparation of a workplan for the preliminary design of the cleanup, which is due in June.

Olin installed and is testing new groundwater wells in Wilmington. Olin’s plan for the design of the DAPL/groundwater pilot treatment system is due in June.

Under EPA oversight, Olin continues to collect information to address groundwater data gaps. This data will help refine and improve the effectiveness of future groundwater remediation.
