Dear Editor,
When it comes to quality local governance, thoughtfulness, careful planning, and being an effective voice for the residents of our community are all critical elements. That’s why I’m happy to endorse Mr. Gary DePalma, and provide examples of each that I’ve seen first hand while working with him on behalf of Wilmington.
Since Mr. DePalma was first elected, he has been a responsive and effective champion of our community and the towns departments. He was amongst the very first voices for a number of joint actions the town and state took to help our fund and train our first responders; including our departments’ drone unit, fire department equipment upgrades and storage, and even the traffic lights to prevent collisions outside our main station. He helped advocate for reimbursement from the state on our elementary school project, resulting in $62 million in project funding for educating our next generation of children. He has also taken the time to advocate for sidewalks and traffic safety improvements near Yentile Farms, our schools, and senior center, and has brought attention and support to our DPWs culvert projects and other infrastructure projects. If the town of Wilmington has a problem, project, or goal in a department Gary is amongst the first to know.
And it’s not just town departments that Mr. DePalma has worked well with on behalf of the town and its residents.
He worked alongside fellow board members to help push state transit officials to relocate the North Wilmington train station up the line and out of traffic on Middlesex Avenue, and had stood shoulder to shoulder along with residents against various project developments that would have negatively impacted their community from Eames st. to Nichols. He has helped local businesses with zoning questions, and supported the Senior Center project and Fire Substation projects as a priority to serve and protect our older residents. His voting record as a board member shows that he reflects our interests, and his questions to developers, department heads, and other officials always are the ones that residents themselves would ask.
As I said above, this record of proof is why I am happy to support Gary in his reelection. Any resident can check these words for themselves easily as our local meetings are posted online for all to review, and they themselves can see Mr DePalma working for Wilmington.
Sincerely,
Dave Robertson
