CANDIDATE STATEMENT: Fasulo Ends His Campaign On A Positive Note, Discussing What He Likes About The Wilmington Community

Dear Editor,

For this, my last and final letter this election, I want to talk about something positive. I want to share why I chose Wilmington as the place to raise my children and where I plan to spend the rest of my days.

For as long as I can remember, Wilmington has had a sense of community that you just do not find in many other places. When problems arise, neighbors step up quickly to help with everything from issues around the house to watching the kids. In my neighborhood, kids still go outside to play, and when the street lights come on, they know it is time to head home. Neighbors look out for one another, texting parents if something happens, whether it is an injury or even a stranger walking through the neighborhood. It may feel old fashioned, but in Wilmington, those kinds of neighborhoods still exist.

If you ask children growing up here what their favorite thing about Wilmington is, many will say the carnival. We have what I believe is the best Fourth of July celebration in the country, and Wilmington has the track record to prove it, thanks to the Fourth of July Committee.

I have always loved history and visiting places where important events took place. When you visit the Harnden Tavern, you get the feeling that while those moments happened long ago, that history is still alive among us.

Wilmington is also one of the towns that still maintains a minuteman company. Every year, they wow kids and families alike with musket demonstrations at parades and community events.

In recent years, Wilmington has added the Fall Festival and continues its long running Tree Lighting celebration. These events have become an important part of my family’s traditions and have helped strengthen the bonds that hold our community together. In December, the Christmas Tree Festival is a great way to kick off the holiday season.

Through my children’s years in the school system (13 years), I have had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best teachers any town could ask for. Our police department also runs an Explorer program that provides valuable guidance and stability for young people.

Wilmington’s location, with four exits off Route 93, gives residents the opportunity to head north to the mountains, spend a quiet day on a Maine beach, travel south for work in the city, or head out to the Cape for a day of fishing.

Most of us chose Wilmington for its small town feel. We enjoy sitting by the window, watching the birds, and seeing the trees, with the occasional deer or even a bobcat passing through.

I have invested 50 years in Wilmington. I am a product of what this town has offered over the years. I am committed to our community, and that commitment means I will do everything I can to keep our town strong for everyone.

Wilmington truly is one of the greatest places to live in Massachusetts. Hopefully, our secret does not get out.

I respectfully ask for your vote on April 25.

Thank you,
Rob Fasulo
