WILMINGTON, MA — Chris E. McNamara, age 60, of Manchester, NH, formerly of Wilmington, passed away on December 27, 2023.
Chris was born on March 13, 1963, in Winchester, MA; he was the son of the late Thomas L. and Mary E. (Gibson) McNamara. Chris grew up in Wilmington as part of a large, loving family of eight siblings. He graduated from Shawsheen Tech with the Class of 1982.
In his early years, Chris worked at the old twin rinks in Wilmington, where drove the Zamboni and sharpened skates in the skate shop. He started his law enforcement career as an auxiliary police officer in Wilmington. After a few years, Chris took a position as a correctional officer at Deer Island Prison in Boston Harbor. He transferred to Suffolk County House of Correction in Roxbury, where he served as a correctional officer for over twenty years. Chris enjoyed the people he worked with and had a special appreciation for his co-workers who served in the military. Each Veterans Day, Chris treated the veterans to a Chinese food lunch to show his appreciation for their military service. In retirement, Chris found joy supporting assisted living residents driving them to their weekly shopping locations.
Chris was a proud Dad of three children: Meghan, Patrick, and Katelyn. They lived in Wilmington for a few years, before relocating to Wrentham and Chester, NH. Chris enjoyed spending time with his children at school and sporting events.
In his spare time, Chris enjoyed golfing. He also liked to work on fixing up his house in Manchester. Recently, Chris became a huge fan of College Football; his favorite team was Michigan and was proud to share his last name with the quarterback.
Chris was a loving father, brother, and friend. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Chris was the devoted father of Meghan McNamara, Patrick McNamara, and Katelyn McNamara all of Derry, NH, cherished son of the late Thomas L. and Mary E. (Gibson) McNamara, dear brother of Thomas McNamara & his wife Kathleen of Westford, David McNamara & his wife Cathy of Tewksbury, Brian McNamara & his wife Mary Beth of Wrentham, Keith McNamara & his wife Lisa of Roseville, CA, Alice Armstrong & her husband Bob, Sean McNamara & his wife Amy, and Susan Leber & her husband Steve all of Methuen. Chris is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Wednesday, January 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 2nd from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
