WILMINGTON, MA — John J. Poisson, age 72, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.
John was born on August 14, 1950, in Medford, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Coyle) Poisson. John was raised and educated in Wilmington, MA, and a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1969.
John proudly served in the United States Navy for several years; his tours of duty took him overseas as well as Stateside. John had a passion for knowledge; he took several classes in Airframes and Hydraulics systems, Aviation Maintenance, and Leadership Management and Training. John earned several commendations for his fine service including the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medals, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars. John was honorably discharged on March 24, 1987.
John was predeceased by his parents Henry and Elizabeth, as well as his wife Dian M. (Burtonwood) Poisson. He is survived by his sister Kathleen Quigley of Tewksbury, his nieces Mary Quigley and Katie McSheehy and her husband Kevin. He was the great-uncle of Ava, Thomas, and Emma. John is further survived by his former wife and friend Karen Poisson and her daughters Laura and Shelly.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Service to Celebrate John’s life at 12:00 noon. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Veterans Lot at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington, MA.
