Shawsheen Tech Holds Successful Career Night For 7th & 8th Grade Families As February 1 Admissions Deadline Approaches

Below is a press release from the Shawsheen Tech:

BILLERICA, MA — More than 350 people attended Shawsheen Valley Technical High School’s 7th and 8th grade Career Night last week. Families from all five sending towns toured the school, experienced student-led, hands-on activities in the twenty-two career-technical shops, met with coaches from the Athletic Department, and visited with academic staff and extra-curricular activities advisors.

The event is timed to allow students and families a final opportunity to explore the regional vocational-technical school before the February 1st admissions deadline.

First-year Shawsheen Tech Superintendent-Director Tony McIntosh enjoyed the chance to show off his new school to the public.

“Any event that allows us to showcase the application-based learning model that is at the heart of everything we do is a great experience in my opinion,” said McIntosh. “Having the opportunity to open our doors to the students, families, and community stakeholders that support our school and programs is a welcome opportunity.”

McIntosh was impressed by the energy his current students displayed interacting with potential new students.

“As I moved throughout the building, I was very impressed with the passion and enthusiasm of our current students as they shared their stories and skills with potential recruits for the Class of 2027,” added McIntosh. “This was a great event for everyone that attended.”

Shawsheen Tech’s new Director of Data, Assessment, and Admissions, Hallie Larocque, echoed McIntosh’s enthusiasm for the event.

“Events like Career Night and tours allow many of our potential students from the sending districts to see and experience some of the unique learning opportunities Shawsheen Tech provides for all students,” said Larocque. “As a new Admissions Director, my goal is to open our school so that students and families get to see and understand the quality of education that Shawsheen Tech provides.”

All Career Night visitors were entered into a raffle to win one of two Adirondack chairs designed and built by students in the Carpentry program in addition to watching the Shawsheen Boys Basketball program host Tewksbury in the Donovan Gymnasium.
