OBITUARY: Francis P. Mauriello, 90

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Francis P. Mauriello, “Frank”, age 90, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 6, 2022.

Frank was born on April 6, 1932, in Medford, MA; he was the son of the late Francis and Erika A. (Jansson) Mauriello. Frank grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School.

At the young age of seventeen, Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 20, 1950. He worked as a radio controller during the Korean War. After 3 years of dedicated service, Frank was honorably discharged on September 8, 1953 and returned home to his family. Frank remained patriotic for his entire life; he was always proud to have served in the military.

Frank attended Northeastern University, where he earned his degree in Business Administration. He went to work in the finance department at the Kemper Group. Through hard work and dedication to the company, Frank was promoted to Operations Manager.

Frank met “the love of his life”, Maria J. (VanKeymeulen) at a bus stop. It was treacherous rain and Frank had a car; he asked Maria if she wanted a ride and she replied, “no thanks.” Not wanting to seem pushy, Frank drove off and left Maria in the rain. The next day at Kemper, Maria realized that Frank was her co-worker. The rest was history; they were married for over fifty-three years. Frank and Maria lived in Burlington for a few years before moving to Wilmington in 1968, where they raised their two boys, Steve, and Bob.

Frank loved Wilmington; it was a great place to raise his family. Frank became involved in the community. Frank was a member of the Methodist Church; his favorite event was selling the Christmas trees. He loved watching how excited the kids got to pick out the tree. Frank would help the families wrap up the tree and load it onto the cars.

Frank had a wonderful personality; he was warm and welcoming to everyone he met. He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Frank was known as “Papa” to everyone.

Frank was the beloved husband of the late Maria J. (VanKeymeulen) Mauriello, devoted father of Stephen Mauriello & his wife Karen and Robert & his wife Darlene all of Wilmington, loving “Papa” of Bob Mauriello of North Andover and Amanda Welch & her husband Michael of Wilmington, “Great-Papa” of Owen Welch. Frank was also a loving “Papa” to many.

Family and friends will gather for visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Sunday, November 13th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church St., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Monday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Memorial donations in Frank’s name may be made to the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church St., Wilmington, MA 01887.
