OBITUARY: Margaret F. (Rooney) Hansen, 90

WILMINGTON, MA — Margaret F. Hansen (Rooney), age 90, of Douglassville, PA, formerly of Whittier, CA, Wilmington, MA and Tewksbury, MA, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2022.

Margaret was born on August 2, 1931, in Cambridge, MA; she was the dear daughter of the late Patrick and Annie (Patterson) Rooney. Margaret’s family lived in Cambridge for a several years before they moved to Wilmington in 1939. Margaret was raised and educated in Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1948.

Margaret married Bill Hansen, a handsome young serviceman from Iowa on December 27, 1951; the couple traveled for several years while he finished his active duty. Upon his discharge from the Service, they settled in Tewksbury, MA, where they raised their wonderful daughters. Bill’s job then took the family to Pennsylvania and on to several other states before they retired to Whittier, CA. Margaret and Bill moved more than 17 times, they got a chance to travel the world, experience different cultures, and meet new people but they always took the time to visit family and friends back in Massachusetts.

Margaret was always so proud of her family; she treasured the time spent with her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She seized the opportunity to take photo’s of their many travels, holidays, and special occasions which she gladly shared with the rest of the family.

Margaret was a beautiful lady inside and out, she was soft spoken, kind and thoughtful. Margaret loved her family and friends unconditionally and will forever be in their hearts.

Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Claire E. “Bill” Hansen, devoted mother of the late Cheryl Langer, Susan Kelley and her husband James of Chino Hills, CA, Donna Niikkonen and her husband Pekka of Newcastle, WA and Barbara Stratton and her husband Robert of Douglassville, PA. Loving Grandmother of Jennifer Rasbold, Edward Rasbold, Eric Rasbold, Kyle Kelley, Keith Kelley, Andrei Niikkonen, Mia Niikkonen, Maggie Johannesen, Kathleen Brunner, and Great-Grandchildren Corben, Nathan, Leah, Kennedy, Evan, Olivia, Charlotte and Gabrielle. Dear sister of May Pilcher of Tewksbury, Alice Sullivan of Wilmington, Gerald Rooney & wife Ayako of Acushnet, the late Martha Gray, Danny Rooney and Patricia Hill & husband Ed of Arizona. Margaret is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Wednesday, June 22nd at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington, MA, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 21st from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
