Below is a press release from the Wilmington Fourth of July Committee:
WILMINGTON, MA — Where were you on July 4, 1981? Many were celebrating our nation’s independence in Wilmington at the first annual “Fun on the Fourth” festivities. This year, residents will have the opportunity to join the 40th annual celebration in Wilmington from June 30, 2022 through July 3, 2022 on the Town Common. What started as a core group of 7 committee members, a few civic groups and a fireworks display, has grown to Greater Boston’s premier 4th of July Celebration. The Town boasts a building (The Fourth of July Headquarters) dedicated to the Celebration and acts as the focal point for the four-day community event.
Most would think of the tremendous fireworks display that the residents are treated to each year, but the Wilmington Fun on the Fourth Celebration is much more than that. Most importantly it’s an annual reunion, an affordable family tradition, and above all, a chance for residents both near and far to come together for four days to celebrate our community and nation. Residents come together for great meals, a carnival, concerts, games, fireworks, and much more. But it is also an opportunity to support more than 15 of Wilmington’s community clubs, including churches, civic organizations, and local sports groups. Participation from these groups makes the Fun on the Fourth one of the largest fundraising events in Wilmington. Private vendors (other than the carnival) are forbidden. This ensures the money spent in Wilmington stays in Wilmington to support our great causes.
Everyone has their memories and favorite parts of the Celebration. Whether it’s the fresh-cooked dinners, live music on the common, cornhole tournament or carnival rides, rest assured this year’s Celebration will be the biggest and best yet.
This year, the Committee is excited to present two nights of fireworks, an antique car show, legendary concerts, a 5K designed for the whole family, and so much more.
Please visit www.funonthefourth.com for this year’s full schedule, event registration, photos and more.
The Committee looks forward to welcoming residents near and far to this year’s Celebration. We hope you are as excited for the 40th Anniversary of the Fun on the Fourth as we are. Happy Birthday America and thank you to the Town of Wilmington for 40 years.
