OBITUARY: Barbara Hazel Spence Webber, 95

Below is an obituary shared by the family:

MASHPEE, MA — Barbara Hazel Spence Webber, formerly of Saugus & Wilmington, Massachusetts, passed away Monday afternoon, January 24, 2022, at Falmouth Hospital.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Herbert William Spence, Sr. & Hazel Friberg Spence, and sister of the late Warren Spence and his wife Frances, Charles Spence and his wife Charlotte, Shirley Spence Guild and her husband Norman, Richard Spence and his wife Joan, & Herbert Spence, Jr. and his wife Ann.  Sister-in-Law of the late Dorothy Webber Hodgdon and her surviving husband Parker.

Barbara was predeceased by her late husband, George James Webber, Jr.  She is survived by her children, Thomas W. Webber, Sr., Leslee Frankland and husband John, Sally Webber & Robert Webber; and nine grandchildren, George J Webber, III, Thomas W. Webber, Jr., Taylor Spence Webber, Emily Frankland, Laura Frankland, Sarah Webber, Marc Webber, Nicolette Webber & Theresa Webber.

Barbara graduated from Saugus High School, Malden Business School & the Boston Conservatory of Music.  She worked for the Boston Safe Deposit & Trust Company, and Melrose Savings Bank.  Barbara was a Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader for the Wilmington Methodist Church, and a Wilmington Girl Scout Leader. Barbara and husband George, were founding members of the Mashpee Congregational Church.  Barbara was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Barbara led a joyful and active life right to the end of her 95 years.  She enjoyed music, singing, reading, sewing, quilting, traveling, walking, genealogy and retirement on Cape Cod.  Music was the magic and biggest influence in her life, she greeted every morning with a song.  Barbara sang in the Children’s Operetta as Little Miss Muffet and was a soloist as Little Bo Peep at the age of ten. She sang in the Saugus Methodist Church Choir and was a soloist for this church and many other churches as a child.  She was a member of the North Shore Choral Society, Mendolis Choral Society, DANE Singers in Lynn, Reading Choral Society Singers where she served as President, and was a soloist for the Rainbow Girls in Saugus and the Eastern Star in Wilmington.  Barbara also sang at many weddings of family and friends throughout her lifetime.

Barbara was a true “Boston” sports enthusiast.  She loved watching her Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots.  She always imparted sage words of advice and wisdom, had a quick and clever wit, much like her husband George.  She thoroughly enjoyed being a mother and friend to all her children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all of her many friends.  Barbara will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
