OBITUARY: Nancy A. (Foley) Brooks, 94

WILMINGTON, MA — Nancy A. (Foley) Brooks, age 94, of Wilmington, formerly of Woburn, Boston, Bath ME, Burlington, and Lovell ME, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2022.

Nancy was born in Woburn, MA, on January 17, 1928; she was one of ten children to the late Peter and Evelyn (Phinney) Foley. Nancy was raised and educated in Woburn and graduated from Woburn High School.

Nancy married John L. Brooks, Jr., in 1950. The couple lived in Boston for several years before moving to Bath Maine where John took a teaching position. The family then returned to Boston before settling in Burlington where they continued to raise their family. Following John’s untimely death in 1972, Nancy continued to raise her young family as a hardworking, devoted and loving mother. Nancy’s family was always her priority and she treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Prior to retiring, Nancy worked as a secretary for the Burlington School System with most of her career spent at the Francis Wyman Elementary School. Nancy was very meticulous in her duties as a secretary but she was like a “mother hen” with the students; she went above and beyond to help them out and treated them as family.

Throughout the years, Nancy, enjoyed the time she spent at Kezar Lake in Lovell, Maine with her good friend John Ganley; This was her “happy place”, so beautiful and peaceful. Nancy and the entire extended family shared many great times together in Maine and created many fond memories through the years.

When Nancy moved to Wilmington, she quickly became involved in the Wilmington Senior Center. Nancy fit right in, she made friends quickly, involved herself in all of their activities, and was very helpful in the kitchen.

Nancy will be fondly remembered for her fierce independence and her sharp wit. She was stylish, friendly, helpful, and pleasant to be around; Nancy loved her family and friends with all her heart and she will forever be missed.

Nancy was the beloved wife of the late John L. Brooks, Jr., devoted mother of John L. Brooks III and his wife Susan, Paul R. Brooks and his wife Sally, Nance Brooks, the late James Brooks and his wife Jane, and Susan Harper and her husband Chris. Loving “Gram” of Robert Brooks, Katherine Brooks Hollis, Samantha Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Michael Brooks, Erin Brooks, John Brooks, Emily Brooks, Ryan Brockhage, Grace Harper, and Faith Harper. Great-Gram of Brooks Hollis and Welles Brooks. Nancy was the dear sister of the late Paul Foley and his wife Pauline, the late Claire McLaughlin and her late husband Bernie, David Foley and his wife Irene, Marcia Doherty and her husband Paul, the late Peter Foley and his wife Pat, Jack Foley and his wife Karen, Tom Foley and his wife Linda, Charles Foley, and Dan Foley. Nancy is also survived by her devoted caregiver JoAnne Sakalinski as well as her many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, March 31st for Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. followed by a Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn, MA.
