OBITUARY: Olive R. (Russell) Guzelf, 95

WILMINGTON, MA — Olive R. (Russell) Guzelf, age 95, a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on February 23, 2022.

Olive was born on December 30, 1926, in Lambeth, London, England; she was the dear daughter of the late Philip C. and Elsie (Fitzgerald) Russell. Olive, along with her siblings were raised and educated in Ashford, Middlesex, England.

As a young lady, Olive, volunteered to become a member of the Women’s Land Army of England during WWII and was a member of NAAFI which was a group that served the troops with the comforts of home as well as providing entertainment for the British Armed Forces stationed at the Ministry of Defense bases abroad in the United Kingdom. While volunteering at Milden Hall in England, Olive, met a young airman who was part of the RAF with the Polish Air Force Squadron named George Guzelf; the couple fell in love and married in 1947. They moved to the United States in 1954, settling just outside of Boston in Dorchester, MA, before moving to Wilmington, MA, in 1960, where they raised their family.

Olive was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother; she showered her family with unconditional love and support throughout their lives. Olive treasured the time she spent with her family and the many wonderful memories they created throughout the years. Olive especially loved spending time with her grandchildren; she was very interested in whatever they were doing in their lives and was so proud of all of their accomplishments.

Olive will be remembered for her “spit fire” personality, her “can do” attitude and her fun spirit. She was proud her her English heritage and made it a point to take her children back to England to visit with family. Olive spent her life doing for others; she was a dedicated employee for the Scully Company in Wilmington for many years, a hard worker and very giving of her time and talents. She was a wonderful lady who will forever be in the hearts of those she touched.

Olive was the beloved wife of the late George Guzelf, devoted mother of Philip G. Guzelf & his wife Bonnie of Tempe, AZ, Deborah J. Cadigan and her husband Dr. John Cadigan of Medfield, MA and Derrick R. Guzelf of Wilmington, MA. Loving “Nana” of Eric Guzelf, Wendy Guzelf, Amy Guzelf, Christen Cadigan, Erica Rockefeller and her husband Christian, Andrea Cadigan and her fiancé Xavier Russo, John “Jack” Cadigan IV, and her great-grandchildren Matthew Guzelf and Courtney Guzelf. Dear daughter of the late Philip and Elsie (Fitzgerald) Russell. Olive was the last of seven siblings and is further survived by her many nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Tuesday, March 1st from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A Service to Celebrate Olive’s life will take place at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 2nd at 11:00 a.m. followed by her interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
