WILMINGTON, MA — Paul C. Smith, Jr., fondly known as “Manny” to his family, friends and community, age 64, a life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly at home on September 29, 2021.
Manny was born on February 25, 1957, in Winchester, MA; he was the dear son of the late Paul and Ruth (Kimball) Smith. Manny was raised and educated in Wilmington and a graduate of Shawsheen Valley Technical High School.
Prior to his health issues, Manny, worked as a receiver in the warehouse at Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington. Manny worked hard at his job and made many great friends while at Sweethearts.
Manny was a “fighter”, following the loss of his legs due to health issues he didn’t give up on living and nothing held him down; instead, he got a motorized scooter and was always out and about. Manny was a “fixture” in the town of Wilmington on that scooter, he made his way to As Good As It Gets Cafe every morning for socializing and breakfast and would often go to Lucci’s Market to gather groceries and visit friends.
Manny had a great personality; a happy disposition and he was a social butterfly; he made many friends wherever he went. Manny also loved animals, especially dogs, he had a bag full of treats and biscuits on his scooter and would often be found feeding the dogs along his traveling route.
Manny will be fondly remembered for his unconditional love and devotion to his family and friends. He especially looked forward to the time he spent with his nieces and nephews who he adored and was so proud of.
Manny was truly a “one of a kind”, a great guy who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him.
Manny was the beloved brother of Linda Pillsbury, Bette Robarge and her husband Donald and the late John Smith all of Wilmington, he was the loving Uncle of Heather Zaccagnini & her husband Mark, Gwen Evans, Ashley Robarge & her fiancé Alex Pynn, Mike Robarge and his wife Sidney, Great-Uncle of Allysha Moores and her husband Doug, Joey Evans, Jim Evans, Brittany Zaccagnini, Giana Zaccagnini and Great-Great-Uncle of Mila Moores. Manny is further survived by his extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home,187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Monday, October 4th for Visiting Hours from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
