Wilmington School District To Share A Coordinator Of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion With 5 Other Districts For 2021-2022 School Year

Below is a letter from Wilmington School Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand:

Dear Members of the Wilmington Community,

Following an extensive search, I am pleased to announce that Ms. India Barrows has been appointed to the SEEM Education Collaborative joint position of Coordinator of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Ms. Barrows holds a Master of Education degree with a concentration in Higher Education from Merrimack College and has worked since 2017 as both the Assistant Director and Director of Diversity and Inclusion at New England College. In this role she has served as a consultant to staff, faculty and students through creating programming and training opportunities that support broadening diversity and inclusion.

The Coordinator of Equity and Diversity is a new position designed to serve as the connector between participating communities by leveraging both district-specific and community-wide culture, knowledge, relationships and practices to inform larger education, diversity and inclusion strategies and programs. Participating districts include Melrose, Lynnfield, North Reading, Stoneham, Wilmington and Woburn.

Primary responsibilities of the coordinator include, but are not necessarily limited to: providing support and coaching for faculty and staff including professional development; providing instructional leadership and curriculum development through an equity lens; assisting in the development of strategic planning and data collection and; collaborating with stakeholders including parent/community groups.

This is a one (1) year position which the Wilmington School Committee previously approved and reports directly to the Executive Director of the SEEM Collaborative.

Sincerely,
Glenn Brand, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
