CANDIDATE STATEMENT: Selectwoman Candidate Judy O’Connell Asks For Your Vote In September 2 Special Election

Below is an announcement from Wilmington Board of Selectmen candidate Judy O’Connell:

WILMINGTON, MA — My name is Judy O’Connell and I am currently running for the open seat on the Wilmington Board of Selectmen. I would like to preface my candidacy announcement by acknowledging and thanking the current town management team for its continued exemplary service. As a previously elected member of the Board, I am excited about the opportunity to rejoin the Board to assist with the work and collaboration that has existed by and between the Board of Selectmen and the leadership team over the past several years.

To share some brief information about my background, I was fortunate to be raised here in town and attended Wilmington Public Schools K-12. As a 1991 honors graduate of Wilmington High School and student-athlete, I went on to attend Merrimack College. As a 1995 cum laude graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree, I embarked into the workforce and joined the technology corporate sector for eleven years working in sales, marketing and account management for Hewlett-Packard Company & Agilent Technologies.  After, I successfully worked for both Methuen and Wilmington Public Schools for multiple years as a teacher as I am provisionally certified in Mathematics for Secondary Education in Massachusetts.  Since 2007, I have been fortunate to work as a Licensed Realtor® and currently co-own a local real estate company, EXIT Family First Realty, here in town.

In support of my candidacy, I feel it is important to praise the spirit of volunteerism that pervades the Town of Wilmington. Like so many other residents, I too have tried to commit myself and my personal time to many of our community service endeavors. As a prior volunteer member of the Wilmington Athletic Alumni & Friends Organization, the Wilmington High School 4.0 Committee, the Wilmington Hall of Fame Committee, the Wilmington Memorial Library Strategic Planning Committee and the Yentile Farm Development Committee, I have truly enjoyed working with others on several town related projects.  Together, we have accomplished many tasks and there is still more work to be done.  As a local businesswoman, previously elected School Committee & Board of Selectmen member for a combined 9-year period and volunteer, I remain committed to serving the residents of the Town of Wilmington now and in the future.

If elected, I pledge to remain committed to being a fiscally conservative and responsible leader who advocates for high quality education, supports youth sports and activities for all ages and fosters responsible economic development at both the residential and commercial levels. Also, I will continue to support the maintenance and enhancement of our overall public safety, environmental health, town infrastructure and overall municipality needs.  Also, we have multiple capital improvement projects that the town needs to consider, prioritize and make decisions on.  I welcome the opportunity to play an active role in this very important process.  As it stands to today, I believe Wilmington continues to be one of the most attractive towns in Massachusetts to live in and raise a family.  I would like to represent you as a member of the Wilmington Board of Selectmen to ensure this belief continues!

In closing, thank you for your time and consideration.  I respectfully ask for your vote on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the polls which are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  For future updates, please visit my campaign Facebook page at  Thank you for your support!

Sincerely yours,

Judy O’Connell
