Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — James T. Bransfield, “Jim”, age 92, a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA, passed away suddenly on May 24, 2021. He collapsed at the cemetery while visiting his late wife, Marion. He has visited her every day since her death.
Jim was born on March 4, 1929, in Malden, MA where he was raised and educated. He was a graduate of Malden High School class of 1948.
In September of 1948, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Jim’s active duty took him overseas to several stations for nearly four years before returning to the Naval Base in San Diego, California. Jim received the Korean Service Medal with one Star and the National Service Medal for his fine service; he was honorably discharged on September 4, 1952 and returned home to his family.
Jim married the “love of his life” Marion Elizabeth Hurton on October 17, 1953. The couple moved to Wilmington in 1959, where they raised a beautiful family and shared many great times together before her passing in 2013. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family during the holidays, family vacations, and celebrations; he was very proud of all of them. Jim and Marion loved to square dance and were members of the Skirts and Flirts Square Dancing Club in Wilmington for many years.
Jim was a hard worker, always wanting to provide the best for his family. He went to work for the Norris Wiener Company in 1953; the company specialized in painting and spray equipment. Jim started at the ground level and learned everything he could about the business. His work ethic was second to none. Jim bought and took over the Company in the late 1960’s. Jim taught his sons how to work the business and eventually they took over the Company so he could finally retire in 1991.
In his retirement, Jim enjoyed heading to Seminole, Florida with Marion, where they had a vacation home and many friends. They enjoyed going to the beach, socializing, dancing and golfing; Jim even got a hole in one while on his favorite course.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed watching sports, especially golf, football and baseball; he was thrilled to see so many championships with his favorite Boston teams throughout the years. He was also known as a “Jack of all trades.” He was always helping someone out with a project, whether it was home improvements, painting, lawn mower repair or helping someone in their yard. He mowed countless lawns over the years. Jim was always out and about helping others or at home taking care of his impeccable yard.
Jim will be fondly remembered as a “good guy”. He could have a gruff exterior, but inside he had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone. Jim was truly “one of a kind” and will forever be missed by those who loved him.
Jim was the beloved husband of the late Marion E. (Hurton) Bransfield, devoted father of Rosemary Bransfield, James Bransfield & his wife Martha all of Wilmington, Patricia Cain & her husband Fred of Wolfeboro, NH and the late John “Jack” Bransfield & his wife Joan Bransfield of Hudson, NH, loving “Gramp” of Caitlyn & her husband Ben, Jennifer & her husband Eric, Fred & his wife Melissa, Meredith, Kerri, Scott, Catherine, Julie and Meaghan & fiance Wil. He also had six Great-Grandchildren: Bryer, Brooklyn, Colin, Caroline, Hudson and Kiley. Dear son of the late Richard and Catherine (Crowley) Bransfield, brother of Eileen Cullen of Ipswich, the late Catherine Fournier, Mary Halpin, Richard Bransfield and Edward Bransfield. Jim is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Friday, June 4th from 9:45-10:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington, MA, at 11:00.
