OBITUARY: Lawrence R. Tucker, Sr., 80

WILMINGTON, MA — Lawrence R. Tucker, Sr., fondly known as “Butch”, “Tucka”, “Tucker” or “Larry”, to his family and friends, age 80, of Tyngsboro, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021, at the Lowell General Hospital.

Larry was born on December 29, 1940, in Reading, MA; he was the dear son of the late Willis F. and Minnola (Roberts) Tucker. Larry was raised and educated in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the class of 1958.

Lawrence met “his sweetheart” Gail Marie LeBlanc at the age of 18; the couple were soon inseparable and were married at St. Anthony’s Church in 1960. Larry and Gail lived in Billerica for 23 years before moving back to Wilmington in 1985. The couple shared more than 55 wonderful years together and raised a beautiful family before Gail’s untimely passing in 2016. Larry was very devoted to his family and would do anything to help them. He took pride in caring for their home and could fix just about anything that went wrong. Larry he was an avid gardener who loved to grow things and enjoyed walking his property during the spring time to see his plants a/k/a “yard friends” coming back to life. Larry’s lawn was the envy of the neighborhood as he was meticulous with his gardens and his lawn was perfectly manicured.

Larry worked hard to provide for his family; for many years he was self-employed as a finish carpenter and his skills were second to none. Larry had a creative mind, artistic ability and did every job with perfection. His endearing personality, great social skills and unending talents made him quite successful with his clients throughout the years.

In his spare time, Larry along with his wife Gail, looked forward to their many travels with their family and friends; some of their favorite places were Florida, Hawaii and the many cruises they embarked on. Larry loved seeing new places and meeting new people; he easily made friends wherever he went.

Larry loved to go on long walks whether it was around the mall, where he earned the name “Mayor of the Mall”, or in his neighborhood or any neighborhood for that matter; it didn’t matter where he walked as long as he got his steps in and made new friends. Larry walked so often that he got to know everyone in every neighborhood he ventured through; he often stopped to socialize and help someone out; he befriended everyone and his charming personality drew people in.

Larry had a passion for knowledge; he was an avid reader who could have a conversation on just about any subject. To say he was “well read” would be an understatement. Larry also shared his books with everyone; he wanted people to enjoy them as much as he did.

Larry will be fondly remembered as a “great guy”; he was the kind of guy that everyone called for help and he would drop everything to go; a real “Mr. Fix It”. Larry was a “people person” who loved to socialize and make friends with everyone he met. He had a great personality and sense of humor; Larry enjoyed making people laugh and smile. Larry’s unconditional love and devotion to his family and friends was evident in everything he did; he was truly “one of a kind” and will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Larry was the beloved husband of the late Gail Marie (LeBlanc) Tucker, devoted father of Lawrence Tucker, Jr. & his wife Rebecca of Billerica, Lynne Marshall & her husband David of Wilmington, Lissa Tucker of Pelham, NH and Kimberly Tucker of Nashua, NH. Loving “Papa” of Dereck & Matthew Tucker, Hannah & Shawn Marshall, Christopher Lane & his wife Rachel, Amanda Coulter & her husband Brandon, Emily Lane and Kevin, Bryan & Jonathan Lanteigne, as well as his Great-Grandchildren Michael, Tucker, Aiden and Abigail. Dear brother of the late Stephen Tucker and Paula Burns. Larry is further survived by his nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave, (Rt. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, March 13th, from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery. Masks are required to be worn while in the Funeral Home.
