WILMINGTON, MA — William Claflin Cameron, age 85, a resident of Wilmington for over 65 years, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away in the care of his family and hospice on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
He was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Gillis) Cameron, who passed away on March 24, 2016 and devoted father of Lisa Cameron, who passed away on September 17, 2009.
Born in Cambridge on January 1, 1935, he one of five children of the late John P. Cameron and the late Effie Marie (Kennedy) Cameron.
Bill was raised in Wilmington and attended Wilmington schools. In 1945, his family moved to Boston, where he attended Boston English High School.
In 1950, his family moved to Tewksbury, and Bill continued his education at Tewksbury High School, graduating with the Class of 1952.
Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War era in the Construction Battalion known as the “Seabees”.
Upon his release from active duty, Bill and his late wife Eleanor settled in Wilmington, where they raised their four children.
Prior to his retirement, Bill worked as a truck driver and manager for Airco Industrial Gas Company in Acton, and was a member of Teamster’s Local # 25 of Boston.
He enjoyed vacationing with his family in the mountains of New Hampshire and was very proud of his self-taught computer research skill.
Bill is survived by three children, Kevin Cameron and his wife Denise of Claremont, NH, Erin Cameron of Claremont, NH, and Kerry Feyler and her husband David of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Kasey Cameron, Ryan Cameron and his wife Stephanie, Anne Marie Brennan and her husband Adam, and Daniel and Michael Feyler; two great grandchildren, Taya and Emery Cameron; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Bill was the brother of the late Donald W. Cameron and his late wife Ann, Walter B. Cameron, John C. Cameron, and Anne E. McCarthy and her late husband George D. McCarthy, Jr.
Due to current public health Covid-19 pandemic, there are no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 28th, at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Avenue, Wilmington. Masks, face coverings, and social distancing required. Interment to follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Bill’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at http://www.stjude.org.
