ONE STEP CLOSER: Town Hires OPM For New Senior Center, Next Step Involves Feasibility Study & Schematic Design

WILMINGTON, MA — At last week’s Wilmington Board of Selectmen Meeting, Selectman Greg Bendel — the Board’s designee to the Wilmington Senior Center Building Committee — announced that an Owners Project Manager (OPM) has been selected for the project.

“On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, the [Committee] met to discuss a final recommendation to the Town Manager,” wrote Bendel in an update to the Board. “The committee had a healthy discussion and about of the four finalists that were interviewed and detailed each of their reference checks.”

Project Planning Professionals (P3) was unanimously selected as the Committee’s top choice from 14 firms and 4 finalists. The Committee voted to recommend P3 as the OPM for a potential new Senior Center to Town Manager Jeff Hull. Other finalists included Colliers International, Hill International and STV-DPM.

“The committee agreed that all four finalists were very fine firms, but each member felt that P3 was the best for Wilmington,” notes Bendlel. “All of our reference checks had very high praise for P3. P3 has extensive municipal experience and, more specifically, experience with building centers for other communities in Massachusetts such as Greenfield, Rockland, and Kingston.”

P3 previously worked with the Town of Wilmington on the window replacement project at the Shawsheen Elementary School.

P3 will serve as the Town’s representative interacting with architects, engineers, and other contractors during the design, construction or renovation of public buildings valued in excess of $1.5 million. Once hired, the OPM will first work with the Town to procure the services of an architect to work with the Town to complete a feasibility study and schematic design for the facility.

“I would like to thank each of my fellow OPM Committee members for the time and effort they put into the search,” added Bendel.

The Senior Center Building Committee consists of the Town’s Permanent Building Committee — George Hooper, Diane Allan, Paul Melaragni, Jack Holloway, and Mike Tkachuck — plus Elderly Services Director Terri Marciello, Finance Committee representative Theresa Manganelli, and Selectmen representative Greg Bendel. Hooper and Allan are serving as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively.
