WOBURN, MA — Marie E. Pappas, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully at her home, Thursday, October 29. 2020. She was 93. Marie was the beloved wife of the late Peter Pappas. Born in Chicago, IL, Marie was one of six children of the late Thomas F. and Mary A. (McCarthy) Connolly.
Marie was raised in Chicago for a short time until her family relocated back to Massachusetts and settled in Wilmington and eventually moved to Woburn where Marie has been a resident for many years.
Throughout her life, Marie was a talented artist specializing in oil paintings and sketching. She worked alongside the landscape artist, Roger Curtis for many years. Marie also worked for twenty-five years as a supervisor with the former Rhodes Foundry in Woburn and later worked for many years with Instrumental Labs of Lexington prior to her retirement. Marie was a strong and independent woman. She loved to travel and thought nothing of hopping in her car and driving to Key West, Florida where she kept a home for many years. She also enjoyed spending time in Virginia with friends and family. Marie will fondly be remembered for her devotion to her family and her kind and generous ways.
Marie was the devoted mother of Francis Pappas of Haverhill, Cheryl Georgoulakos and her husband Charles of Amherst, NH, the late Rose card and Thomas Pappas. Marie is also survived by eight grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Sister of the late Dorothy Conlon, Patricia Lane, Shirley Bornas, John and Thomas Connolly.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated, Wednesday, November 4th, at St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. All attending must wear a face mask and adhere to strict social distancing protocols. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions in Marie’s memory may be made to Visiting Nurse & Community Care, 37 Broadway, Arlington, MA 02474.
