Below is a press release from debate organizer Lorna Garey:
TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury Democratic and Republican Town Committees will host a debate at Tewksbury Town Hall on Thursday, October 1, 2020 starting at 7 p.m. Candidates for the contested 19th Middlesex state house district will participate, and the event will be simulcast by Tewksbury Telemedia. Wilmington Apple editor and Tewksbury resident Robert Hayes will moderate.
Incumbent Democrat Dave Robertson is running for his second two-year term. He is being challenged by Republican Alec DiFruscia. The 19th Middlesex district represents residents in Tewksbury precincts 1, 1A, 2, 2A, 4 and 4A and Wilmington precincts 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6.
The sponsors believe it is vital that voters have as much information as possible to make an informed decision on this house seat, given the opportunities and challenges facing Tewksbury and Wilmington. This debate is meant to supply that information to residents. It will be broadcast live on Tewksbury’s Public Channel (8 for Comcast, 32 for Verizon) and on YouTube at Tewksbury TV.
Due to occupancy restrictions at Town Hall, the public may not attend in person.
“This year’s election cycle has been challenging for both residents and candidates,” said Ruth Chou, chair for the Tewksbury Republican Town Committee. “Due to social distancing restrictions we as individuals have had to get creative to stay connected and informed as parents, healthcare providers, teachers, employees and employers, and as a community. Debates among the candidates is a vital tool for the voter to make an informed decision about the candidates. We invite the public to continue to take an active role in the electoral process by submitting your questions to the candidates through social media or email; watch the debate October 1 to get informed; and most importantly, exercise your right to vote November 3. “
The public is invited to submit questions via the methods listed below or through Twitter with the hashtag: #19thMiddlesexDebate.
“The Democratic Town Committee is proud to be co-hosting this event on October 1,” said Cathy Dwyer, chair of the Tewksbury Democratic Town Committee. “We hope that Tewksbury and Wilmington voters of all ages will join us in watching what promises to be an exciting evening of democracy at its finest.”

About the hosts:
The Tewksbury Democratic Town Committee is the local arm of the Democratic Party. We actively support candidates at the regional, state and national levels. Activities include our annual Unity Breakfast, canvassing and sign holding, encouraging voter registration and participation in town events, sponsoring candidates’ nights and forums so voters have the opportunity to hear candidates’ positions on important issues, and holding regular meetings and social events. We welcome new members who are registered Democrats and residents of Tewksbury. We have 35 elected members plus 20-year members and a large and growing roster of associate members, who receive preference when an opening arises on the committee. Members of the Democratic State Committee residing in the town are also members.
The Tewksbury Republican Town Committee’s mission is to promote the Principles of the Republican Party and to promote the election of Republican candidates. In addition, we work to: Support Republican candidates who are running for local, county, state, and national office; recruit local Republican candidates for elective offices; provide opportunities for Republican candidates to address the Town Meeting and the public at open forums; sponsor candidate nights for the public and/or public issue debates; elect delegates to the Republican pre-primary state Convention; offer or assist in fund-raising activities for the party; and participate in election day activities.
