Wilmington’s National Night Out On August 4 CANCELLED Due To COVID-19

WILMINGTON, MA — Last week, the Wilmington Police Department announced it has cancelled its 2020 National Night Out event, scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2020, due to COVID-19.

“We hate to do it, but the current social distancing regulations make it impossible for everyone to gather at Rotary Park,” read the social media announcement. “We’ll just have to make sure our 2021 event is better than never!”

National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. At the Wilmington event, representatives from local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies are typically on hand to speak with community members and explain each of their agency’s role. The popular event features police & fire vehicles displays, equipment displays, demonstrations, crime prevention information, food, bouncy houses, and a kids movie night.
