VIDEO: Meet The Wilmington Boy Making “Ear Savers” For Masks, Recently Donated To Wilmington Fire Department

WILMINGTON, MA — Watch the latest episode of “Talk of the Town” with host Ryan Malyar, WCTV’s Youth & Content Coordinator, featuring quick, feel-good stories from around town.

In this episode, Malyar remotely interviews Wilmington Middle School 6th grader Kevin Pruslin, who has creating “ear savers” for masks using his 3D printer. These ear savers prevent pressure on the back of your ears.

“Sometimes when you’re wearing masks for hours on end, they start irritating the back of your ears by pulling them,” explained Pruslin. “You just hook the ends of the masks around the loops of the ear savers, and wrap them around the back of your head.”

It takes approximately 20 minutes to create an “ear saver” with Pruslin’s 3D printer.

Pruslin recently gave more than 20 ear savers to the Wilmington Fire Department. He’s also making them for any resident who would like one. Contact Kevin’s dad Stew on Facebook or email to request one.

Pruslin was first introduced to 3D Printing through the town’s 4H Science Pirates and a field trip to the Wilmington Memorial Library where members received a demonstration. He explains the basics of 3D printing to Malyar.

Pruslin also discusses what he’s been up to during the stay-at-home advisory, how remote learning is going, and what else he’s building with his 3D printer.
