TOWN ELECTION UPDATE: Ballot Is Set — No Contested Races This Year

WILMINGTON, MA — For the first time in a long time, there are no contested races in this year’s town election.

The Town Clerk’s Office finished certifying nomination papers after Friday’s filing deadline and it’s now official: Barring any successful write-in campaigns — incumbent Selectwoman Jomarie O’Mahony will win re-election; Gary DePalma will win the seat long held by departing Selectman Mike McCoy; School Committee Chair Jennifer Bryson and Vice Chair Steve Bjork will retain their seats; and Deming Way resident Audrey Reed will win the Housing Authority seat previously held by Leona Bombard, who is not seeking re-election.

According to Assistant Town Clerk Linda Golden, here is who will be on this year’s ballot:

Wilmington Board of Selectmen — 2 seats — 3-year terms

  • Jomarie O’Mahony (incumbent) — pulled papers on 1/15 — retired on 2/28 — certified on 3/3
  • Gary DePalma (challenger) — pulled papers on 2/25 — returned & certified on 3/4

Resident Daniel Murphy pulled papers on 2/24, but never returned them.

Wilmington School Committee — 2 seats — 3-year terms

  • Jennifer Bryson (incumbent) — pulled papers on 1/14 — returned & certified on 2/5
  • Steve Bjork (incumbent) — pulled papers on 2/12 — returned & certified on 3/6

Wilmington Housing Authority — 1 seat — 5-year term

  • Audrey Reed (challenger) — pulled papers on 2/28 — returned on 3/2 — certified on 3/3

The Town Moderator position and seats on the Shawsheen Tech School Committee are NOT up for re-election in 2020.

Important Dates 

The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020.  Polls will be open from 8am to 8pm.

The last day to register to vote for the Annual Town Election is Monday, April 6, 2020.
