WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Fire Department has had an especially busy couple of days, fighting two fires in town that garnered coverage from Boston’s local TV news stations.
On Thursday, the Wilmington Fire Department responded to a fire at ChemGenes (33 Industrial Way) around 2:30pm. A report from the Lowell Sun reveals a machine caught fire inside the chemical building, which triggered its sprinkler system to alert public safety officials. Firefighters from Woburn, Tewksbury, and Reading, along with a hazmat team, were on the scene. The building was evacuated and no injuries were reported. On Friday, the Wilmington Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire at approximately 9:10am. Firefighters from Wilmington and Woburn battled the two-alarm fire at 68 Cook Avenue. Scanner reports indicate the fire began in the home’s chimney. A portion of Main Street/Route 38, near Woburn, was shut down for approximately 3.5 hours.
