WILMINGTON, MA — William F. Lawson “Bill”, age 72, of Dracut, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 13, 2019.
Bill was born in Brighton, MA on March 10, 1947; he was the dear son of the late Ralph and Catherine Lawson. Bill was raised in Somerville, MA and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Cambridge. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University in Boston with the Class of 1970.
Bill married his “sweetheart” Cathy McCarthy on August 30, 1969; celebrating nearly 50 years of marriage and raising three wonderful children. Bill and Cathy moved to Wilmington in 1976 where they resided for many years before retiring to Dracut a few years ago.
Bill was a devoted family man; he looked forward to family vacations; especially his trips to Disney World with his children and later with his grandchildren. He was a “foodie” at heart and loved to take his family out to eat, however his favorite meal by far was Cathy’s homemade Sunday roastbeef dinner.
Bill was a hard worker; he was outgoing, friendly and chatty; all attributes that made him very successful in his profession.
Bill will be fondly remembered as a “simple guy” who loved to crack jokes. He loved the New England Patriots and enjoyed attending many games. He loved his family and treasured his role as “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandson. Bill will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill was the beloved husband of Catherine A. “Cathy” (McCarthy) Lawson, devoted father of Marybeth Basnett & her husband Mark of Dracut, Bill Lawson Jr. & his wife Gwen of Wilmington and Paula Kerrigan and her significant other Natthan Ralls of Dracut. Loving “Papa” of Markie, Christopher, Caylie, Jacqueline, Will, Colin, Ryan, Kailyn, Kathryn, Andrew and his great-grandson a/k/a “My Little Buddy”, Colton. Dear son of the late Ralph and Catherine (O’Brien) Lawson, brother of Ralph Lawson & his wife Janet of Plaistow, NH. Bill is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Wednesday, June 19th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 11:00 a.m. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 18th from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
