ANDOVER, MA — Last week, a Vermont man was arrested on firearms charges related to an incident in which he allegedly brandished a firearm at another motorist while traveling in New Hampshire.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at about 12:30pm on Monday, May 17, 2019, State Police received a call from a motorist who reported that the operator of a Toyota Tundra had brandished a firearm while traveling in New Hampshire and was now traveling on Route 93 Southbound in Massachusetts. The caller additionally reported that the operator of the Toyota was driving erratically. Trooper Joaquin Miranda soon observed the vehicle traveling on Route 93 Southbound in Wilmington and stopped the vehicle on Route 93 over the line in Reading.
Upon investigation, Trooper Miranda located two eight-round magazines, fully-loaded with .45 caliber ammunition, an H&K USP .45 caliber hand gun with an eight-round, fully-loaded magazine in the weapon, a Lewis Machine tool AR-15, 5.56 caliber firearm, along with two empty 30 round magazines, and 314 rounds of 5.56 ammunition inside the vehicle.
Trooper Miranda determined that the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle, Alan Cournoyer, 39, of Wolcott, Vermont, was not licensed to possess firearms in Massachusetts.
Cournoyer was placed under arrest on the following charges:
1. Illegal Possession of a Firearm (pistol)
2. Illegal Possession of a Loaded Firearm (Ammo in the pistol)
3. Illegal Possession of a large capacity weapon (AR-15)
4. Illegal Possession of large capacity magazines (30 Rounds)
5. Illegal Possession of ammunition
6. Illegal Possession of an assault weapon
Charges related to the alleged incident in New Hampshire are being considered by New Hampshire authorities.
