STATE REP RACE: Tewksbury Republican Committee Attack Robertson Over Wilmington Democratic Committee Chair’s Statement

TEWKSBURY, MA — Below is a press release from the Tewksbury Republican Town Committee, followed by a response from the Wilmington Democratic Town Committee Chair Erika Johnson.

Tewksbury Republican Town Committee Press Release (“Does Dave Robertson support small business or hateful politics?)

[On Sunday], the Tewksbury Republican Town Committee called upon Democratic State Rep candidate Dave Robertson to denounce the boycott being driven by district Democrats of Dandi-Lyons, a Tewksbury business owned and operated by State Representative Jim Lyons.

“Does Dave Robertson support small business or does he support bringing politics of hate to the 19th Middlesex District because he and his party differ with Rep Lyons on the issues?” said Joe Dunn, secretary of the Tewksbury RTC. “This is just another in a long list of things that shows how far left Mr. Robertson and the Democratic party have gone in the 19th Middlesex District. We’re at the point that if anyone disagrees with the Democrats, they’ll shut you down.”

The boycott was started Friday morning by Erika Johnson, the Chair of the Wilmington Democratic Town Committee, a committee that has unanimously endorsed Robertson’s campaign. Johnson was a recent State Rep candidate in the primary that Robertson won in September. On Friday morning, Johnson posted on Facebook:

‘Dear Ice Cream Loving Friends,
Unless you like your soft serve ice cream served up with a big scoop of hate and intolerance, don’t patronize Dandi-Lyons Ice Cream in Tewksbury…There are plenty of other ice cream shops around without a hateful agenda.’

The Wilmington Democratic Town Committee Facebook page states that its mission is ‘to represent, communicate, and promote Democratic values.’

“This is Dave Robertson’s party and values,” said Dunn. “A party that values higher taxes, protecting dangerous criminals who are here illegally and now damaging the livelihood of a Tewksbury business owner and its employees all because they have different beliefs. The 19th Middlesex can’t afford to send another Democrat to Beacon Hill.”

The RTC has also been critical of Robertson’s “ICE is disgraceful” comment which came weeks after ICE detained an illegal immigrant who was arrested in Tewksbury for trafficking heroin.

Response From Erika Johnson, the Chair of the Wilmington Democratic Town Committee

I posted this message on my personal Facebook, not the Wilmington Democratic Town Committee page. My views do not reflect the views of the Committee.

Mr. Lyons brought politics into his business the moment he decided to put political lawn signs outside of his business. People deserve to know the extreme things he stands for as an elected official. All of his stances and voting record I mentioned in my post are public information.

There is no connection to Dave Robertson whatsoever as we have never discussed Mr. Lyons, his positions or his business.

The Wilmington Democratic Town Committee unanimously endorsed the entire Democratic slate of candidates on the ballot this Midterm Election.

I am disgusted that the Tewksbury Republican Town Committee made such an egregious correlation between my statement, the committee, and Dave Robertson. The TRTC misconstrued my statement as I did not advocate for a boycott. I was simply providing information about the man behind the political signs who also owns the business. Many people commented that they appreciated the information and have not patronized other local businesses who chose to take a political stand and as consumers, that is their right. Personally, I will be buying my ice cream, flowers and Christmas tree elsewhere.

  1. In my past elections most of them were non partisan but being a blue dog democrat I have had the great pleasure of being supported by dems, repubs and independents but I will never stop calling out any person or group that attacks a person I also support. Mr Robertson can speak and stand on his own record. This association of another primary candidate’s facebook comment and his campaign is truly grasping at straws. Keep this crap up and many independents won’t even consider any future public statements from the RTC.

  2. So the Dems stand for destroying the businesses and personal lives of anyone who opposes their policies.

Instead of agreeing to disagree the Dems now support ruining the livelihood of people who don’t march in lock step with them.

What’s next Mr. Robertson – an Antifa march and breaking of his businesses windows?

Yeah, tell me who the Nazi’s are again? Kristallnacht in America. It’s already here and if the Dems get in power again on the back of personal and business assaults god help us.

Fortunately most middle of the roaders can see where the Dems are heading and it’s not any good for our Republic.

      1. You are so funny – she’s the mouthpiece for the Dems so you can’t claim that they are separate.

That is rather disingenuous but lies and hate and boycots all the left has to offer these days.

Yeah, this isn’t your dad’s Democratic party.

  3. bostonbob btw are you from Boston cause I am? BlueDog Dems like myself oppose about 10-12% of the National Democratic Platform. You can try as you might to lump us together, good luck with that. Keep eating the pablum from the multi nations and the 1%ers talk about free enterprise and the free economy there are 4 companies in every sector that run this country. It’s more of a monopoly than competition than the Founding Fathers gave their lives for.

    1. George I have no idea what you are talking about.

I am expressing disgust that the local Dem party is calling for the boycott of a business for the politics of its owner.

Combined with the actions of Antifa, a subsidiary of the Dem party – the brownshirts are here and they are the current Democratic party.

That’s not an America I want to live in where those whose politics you don’t like for whatever reason are doxed and their businesses and lives ruined.

Keep voting for the true Nazi party – the Dems if you like.

But today’s Dems have moved so far to the wrong side of the track they are unrecognizable to mod of us in the middle.

  4. does that include Trumps comments on football bob? or it is only because it is an attempt to make a democrat look bad

    1. Huh?

By not completely disavowing the boycott the Dems look really bad. I don’t have to do anything to make that happen.

As to President Trump’s football comments? You leftists still don’t understand why you lost in 2016.

Patriotism is appreciated by most American’s. Pissing on the flag, wearing pig socks, kneeling for the National Anthem aren’t looked at highly by most Patriotic American’s.

The fact that President Trump connects with regular Americans is something that completely stymies you.

      It’s almost amusing to watch.

FWIW I think President Trump can be a jack wagon. But I would rather have him than any Venezuela loving socialist on the Dems side.

The Dems have lost middle America and can’t understand why.

    1. “I posted this message on my personal Facebook, not the Wilmington Democratic Town Committee page. My views do not reflect the views of the Committee.”

Uh huh. Then why doesn’t the Dem Town Committee fire her disgusting radical anti-American behind?

      Crickets chirping.

Any rational person recognizes that this ‘slight separation’ between the personal and official Erica is in reality zilch.

The Dems should disavow her public statements and fire her.

But that is what the Dems stand for today so they won’t.

Disagree with the Dems today and they will try and destroy you personally and professionally.

That is the message that Erica and the Dems push out… a message of hate, not tolerance of others views.

That is not an America I or most middle of the road and I dare say Dems want to live in.

      1. Oh Bob… being an American is practicing free speech, which is certainly did. How is that anti-American by stating her opinion? Get over yourself.

      2. A.S. – so you ok with his business suffering because he’s a Republican?

Her statement is promoting fascism which is about as anti-American as you can get.

  5. “Uh huh. Then why doesn’t the Dem Town Committee fire her disgusting radical anti-American behind?
    Crickets chirping.”
    – because she hasn’t done anything worth terminating. She expressed her own personal opinion on her own personal facebook page. Shes allowed to have thoughts of her own.

“Any rational person recognizes that this ‘slight separation’ between the personal and official Erica is in reality zilch.
The Dems should disavow her public statements and fire her.But that is what the Dems stand for today so they won’t.”
No, again, this was her personal page. not the committee’s page.

“Disagree with the Dems today and they will try and destroy you personally and professionally.”

Not true. I have used businesses of people who I disagree with politically. That being said, if someone espoused views that were especially hateful, I’d likely boycott them. We’re allowed to do that in this country. Conservatives can boycott Nike and hold burnings of jerseys of athletes they disagree with. We’re allowed to go a block further down and go to Mac’s or buy Christmas trees in Wilmington ( the boy scouts trees are rad!)

“That is the message that Erica and the Dems push out… a message of hate, not tolerance of others views.
That is not an America I or most middle of the road and I dare say Dems want to live in.”

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA there’s so much bullcrap in that statement if I spread it around a field I’d have bumper crops for years.

    1. Likeaboss – sure if someone is expressing hate I wouldn’t want to do business with them either.

But the business isn’t selling swastikas. He’s just a Republican.

But to some Dems and the radical left that alone disqualifies them from being able to have a job or business.

As a Dem leader asking for a boycott don’t try and weasel out that the Dems shouldn’t disavow it.

If a Republican did the same he or she would be doxed and had their job put in jeopardy.

  6. BostonBob sounds like a broken record! I don’t like Erika Johnson’s politics either but I want her free speech to never be called into question. The irony of people like BostonBob are that they are always screaming about commies and the Dems and America and yet they sound so much like Soviets while doing so.

    1. Not about free speech Marty.

We live in a civil society quickly being made uncivil by people like Erika who espouse fascist hate for those who disagree with them.

If there are no repercussions for her calling for a boycott of a mans business because he’s a Republican then what’s next?

Ok to smash his windows and beat him?

Oh wait Antifa already does that.

Guess Erika is just playing catch up.

  7. Erica’s comments are a form of voter suppression and are wrong from someone representing a political party. Although she denies it, she inferred a boycott of the business because the owner is voting for a GOP candidate. In today’s society no one should feel suppressed or intimidated while exercising his or her right to vote. It is astonishing and disgraceful that people judge people by the way they vote and harbor such intolerance of other view points. This polarization and black and white mentality is harmful. The reason why you dislike a candidate may not be the reason why someone else for the supports that same candidate.

It is her right to free speech and she can choose to shop where she wants. But as a former democratic candidate and member of Dem Town Committee, she is a spokesman for the organization, like it or not. Her behavior and words represent the organization as an official, or even as a private citizen. There are many organizations that rightfully let go their employees for statements made on their social media accounts because those statements did not align with the values of the organization.

  8. those players bob are part of a private company and made a statement that trump and republicans protested as is their right. their bosses let them do it but republicans protested. how is this different for erica to protest as someone? what doesnt matter is patriotism or not but trump and company are doing the exact thing erica did

    1. Calling for the boycott of a company (the wrong one by the way as Erika got the owners of the shop in Reading wrong) – because the owner is of a political party is quite different from the NFL protest issue.

The owner of the company in Tewksbury was simply a member of the Republican party which to Ms. Johnson was enough to brand the shop as having a hateful agenda and calling for a boycott. They weren’t making a political statement by saying cops should be killed or that the American flag should be pissed on instead of stood up for.

Youthful ignorance for sure since she originally outed the shop in Reading which is owned by the Maselli’s and have no political connection whatsoever.

But the larger question of fascist tactics – shutting down someone, getting them fired or ruining their business because they don’t agree with your politics is something that the Nazi party did in their rise to power.

The Dems not decrying her ‘youthful ignorance’ when she leads the Dems in Wilmington makes me think that they like other Dems around the country have stopped even trying to have a civil discourse and have moved to full on brownshirt mode.
