NASHUA, NH — Philip F. Denner Jr., age 93, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2018 in Nashua, NH. He was born in Boston, MA in 1925, the son of the late Philip F. Denner Sr. and Florence Ryder Denner of Wilmington, MA and Nashua, NH.
Philip was raised and educated in Wilmington, MA and after graduating from Wilmington High School in 1943, he joined the U.S. Army. He served in the 94th Infantry Division, 301st Regiment, Company C, European theater of operations during the Battle of the Bulge. Philip received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, four battle stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a life member of the DAV.
After his discharge as a Sergeant in January 1946, he immediately entered Brown University in Providence, RI, graduating in 1949. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. Philip married Roberta Otis Guild in Providence, RI in 1950 and they moved to Nashua in 1953 where Philip worked in sales as a manager for the Nashua Corporation for thirty-seven years until his retirement in 1990. After retiring, he spent fourteen happy winters at his condo in Florida on Treasure Island before returning full time to Nashua.
Philip was an active member of First Church, U.C.C. of Nashua. He had been a chairman of the Board of Deacons, Superintendent of the Sunday School for ten years, a Sunday School teacher, President of the Fellowship Club and member of other boards and committees including the Chairman of the Troop 7 committee, Boy Scouts of America for several years. He particularly remembered the camping trips both winter and summer with the troop. Philip was also a member of the Friendship Lodge, AF&AM of Wilmington, MA.
Philip enjoyed camping with his family on summer vacations at several New England campgrounds, their favorite for fifteen years being on Cape Cod.
Besides his wife, Philip is survived by his four sons, Dr. Peter Ryder Denner and his wife Dr. Shu-Yuan Lin Denner of Pocatello, ID, Paul Scott Denner and his wife Rachel Quigley of Nashua, Robert Lawrence Denner and his wife Theresa Martel Denner of Connelly Springs, NC and Russell Guild Denner and his wife Lisa of Saco, ME. Philip also leaves behind four grandchildren, Jaclynn, Sarah, Michael and Sean Denner, a great grandchild, Nicholas McIntyre Jr., two step grandchildren, Sophia Tsai Malmquist and Kevin Tsai, a sister in law, Joanna Brown of E. Providence, RI, two nieces and several cousins.
SERVICES: There are no visiting hours. A Funeral Service was held Friday July 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at the First Church, UCC, 1 Concord St., Nashua, NH 03064. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Following services, a reception was held in the church. Interment and prayers will follow the reception at 1:30 pm at Edgewood Cemetery, 107 Amherst St., Nashua, NH 03064.
