WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Senior Center hosted seven volunteers from AARP this past tax season to help Wilmington seniors complete and filing their state and federal tax returns.
From February 3 to April 12, AARP volunteers logged 403 hours to complete 195 tax returns for Wilmington seniors, free of charge.
“[Elderly Services Director] Terri Marciello and her staff were invaluable in signing seniors up for each tax session and reminding them to come,” AARP Tax Volunteer Coordinators Annemarie Rotondo and Judith Agnes recently told town officials in a letter shared with Wilmington Apple. “The Senior Center provided a way for seniors to have piece of mind that their taxes were done and those eligible for the Senior Circuit breaker of $1,080 could file it. For many, that money paid for winter heating bills and medicines.”
“The town of Wilmington has one again provided its most vulnerable citizens a wonderful service,” added the AARP representatives, who look forward to future collaboration in the coming years. “The Senior Center staff once again made this tax season such a success for its seniors.”
