STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: 3 Wilmington Students Inducted Into Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society At Salem State

SALEM, MA — The First Year Experience office at Salem State University recently announced the induction of 259 first-year students into the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, a national honor society for first-year students.

Among the inductees were Wilmington residents Samantha Colombo, Conor Kilbride, and Theresa Valenti.

The honor society recognizes the high academic achievement of first-year students during their first semester. These students were inducted into this prestigious society for having a grade point average that surpassed a 3.5 and for being in the top 20 percent of their class. This year more than 20 percent of the first year class achieved above a 3.5 GPA which meant that only those students who achieved a 3.6 GPA were able to be inducted.

The 2017-2018 Alpha Lambda Delta Induction Ceremony took place in Veterans Hall in the Ellison Campus Center earlier this semester. At this ceremony, new Alpha Lambda Delta members were sworn into the society and then awarded a membership pin and certificate. The Alpha Lambda Delta executive board spoke at the event about the impact that membership has had on their academic success.

Salem State University Provost and Academic Vice President David Silva congratulated the first year students on their honor.

“You are a part of that scholarly community and represent the top 20 percent of the incoming class of freshman and new transfer students,” he said. “As many of you know, achieving this level of distinction is not easy.”

Alpha Lambda Delta at Salem State University re-established itself in 2012 and has inducted over a 1,000 members since then.
